I read that the wifi hardware is there, but disabled?
True? Anyone has more on this? as not having wifi is again, another serious limitation for this watch who already has so many.
I have a feeling we should all be thankful they still kept the option for this watch to show the time, as so many super basic features are not there

Yes, fitbit actually states it clearly in the Sense 2 description but actually never provided any logical.explanation about it.

The Sense 2 uses a combined Bluetooth / Wi-Fi chipset and since the Sense 2 neither supports offline music nor app development from Fitbit's point of view there is no reason to active the Wi-Fi part. We'll see how Bluetooth transmission only affects the first firmware update, especially with the features to come.

They explained that the reason they disabled it was to focus on the most used "core" functions. There is a petition to return the wifi and they said if they get enough upvotes that they will send it along to the tech development team to rethink adding it back. You can find the petition in the forums, I just don't have a direct link for you.
But yes, I agree, stupid on their part. But at least the sense 2 seems to be tracking sleep a whine lot better than 1.

Having just loaded new firmware, 20001.184.52, it took about ten minutes.

There is no current reason shared to be why the Wi-Fi hardware is disabled; being that this watch was limited because of the main thing it was made for, fitness. But nobody understands why they added Wi-Fi options to the Google Pixel Watch and added Third Party apps on to previous devices released.

@SunsetRunner - as mentioned in your other post WiFi is rarely used on Fitbit watches and presumably was removed altogether from the Sense 2 in order to make the battery last longer and simplify the development
Why Apps were removed from this watch is a mystery.

I'm telling people I know not to buy Sense 2. The original was better and I regret "upgrading" to Sense 2 Maybe I'll try an apple watch.

They probably took stuff away from Sense 2 and gave it to Pixel watch, so they don't have two products doing the same thing. Eventually they will probably push Pixel watch more and more.
I recently got a Galaxy Watch 5 and now I'm wishing I didn't rush into upgrading my Sense to Sense 2 so quickly. They still haven't fixed basic problems that the Sense had, like stopping tracking in the middle of exercise or inaccurate heart rate sensor. I thought the Sense 2 would be much better, but it doesn't seem to be. And with the Samsung watch, there is no subscription fee to get advanced analysis (like sleep analysis), etc. Plus, it has Wi-Fi, Google Pay, and so many features the Sense 2 doesn't - for a lower price. The two things I like about the Sense 2 I like over the Sense are that it is noticeably thinner and the physical button on the side.
