Workaround for Updating Weather Tile on Sense 2

First off, it's criminal that Fitbit has not updated any of the built-in tiles on the Sense 2 since 9/18/2023. They should be embarrassed. The problem with the Sense 2 Weather Tile not updating has been an ongoing issue for more than a year with all forms of witchcraft to try and solve the problem. It's likely 15 minutes worth of coding to make it right. I've spent at least four hours online and tinkering with the Fitbit app and my Sense 2 since purchasing a week ago to try and solve this problem. Who at Fitbit should I send my bill to?

For starters, the Fitbit Weather app works fine. When you swipe over to the Weather tile and see dashes instead of temperatures, you can tap the screen to get the current weather. Tap again for a more detailed view. You don't need the Accu-Weather app or anything else to make that happen. It works. The "problem" is that the Weather tile stops updating about 12 hours after the Fitbit app wakes up on your phone. The Fitbit app is always on. In order to get the Weather tile to update again, you need to force close the Fitbit app on your phone. You don't need to sync, or even open the Fitbit app. It will open by itself in the background a few seconds after you force close it. Within a minute or less, your Weather tile will be updated and remain updated for up to 12 hours. Viola! Success. But who want to dig into settings and force close the Fitbit app several times a day? Not me.

After trying a half dozen apps in the Play Store (I have a Pixel Fold - not sure how to accomplish this on an iPhone) I found an app labeled Hibernator. The app is designed to force close apps to free up RAM on your phone. That part works well, though it's not a solution to our common problem. This particular app also has a feature that will force close app(s) when you turn off your phone. You can change the time interval for when that will happen to minutes, one hour, six hours or twelve hours. Choose "six hours" as twelve was too long in my testing. Next, the app has two filters for closing apps: All Apps, except for those you have added to an Exception List, or Custom List. You'll want to select "Custom List". In that list add the Fitbit app and nothing else. Now, depending on the state you leave this app in when you close it; All Apps or Custom List, the Hibernator app will close app(s) every six hours after you turn off the screen on your phone. Make sure you always leave the Hibernator app with the Custom List selected before closing the app. If you don't even need to force close groups of apps, you'll likely never need to open this app again.

Now, when you wake up in the morning your Fitbit will typically not be displaying current weather on the tile.  Understood. But once you check your phone and either turn off the screen or let it time out, the Weather tile will populate within a minute. Nothing else for you to do. Almost perfect. If Fitbit or Google ever get around to fixing this simple problem, that would be perfect. In the meantime, this will give you peace of mind. I hope this helps someone.
