Brightness won’t change on sense.

When I go to setting then display it becomes very dim and hard to see. I go to brightness and it won’t allow me to change it.

I suspect you are in 'Sleep Mode', intentionally preventing brighter screen.  It is in Settings > Quiet Modes

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
