Burning Calories When Off

How can my Fitbit count calories burned when it is off? I turn it off every night to avoid this and now it does not matter this is not the first time I have experienced this either! 11 steps 75 hb 1,098 calories burned. It was off and yea I synced it about 2 min ago and it did nothing to change the calorie count! I do not want calories you assume I am burning. I want to know exactly how many I am burning from activity during my waking hours! This is a flaw you must address ! Because I am not the only person who finds the fact your product does this annoying!

Hi @Dani0608  burned calories come from your BMR (base metabolism rate) which comes from your gender, age, height and weight. It is merely the calories burned from breathing and moving, which your Fitbit knows from the time you set it to your account. It's perfectly normal and the more active you are, the more calories you burn. You can't turn this feature off, unless you remove it from your account. You don't need to wear it for the burned calories to show.

@Dani0608 Welcome to the Fitbit community.

Unfortunately, Fitbit doesn't have a quick location that shows your BMR. But that's easy to figure out by going to your calories burned while sleeping. It does it in increments of 15 minutes so take that number and multiple by 4 for the hourly BMR then 24 for the daily BMR. I compared mine to one a BMR calculator gets me and Fitbit's number is within 3 calories for the 24 hours. With that information, you can subtract your daily BMR from your total calories and you would have you activity calories burned.

Not convenient but BMR should always be considered for the overall calories burned anyway. If someone's trying to gain or lose weight, you can't not include BMR.

Hello @Dani0608 and welcome to the Community.  Unfortunately, Fitbit doesn't separate BMR calories from activity calories.  Fitbit uses the Mifflin St Jeor equation to estimate BMR.  There are many online sites where you just enter your values.  You can keep track of it.  You will only need to recalculate it if you gain or lose some weight.  Your Sense has many features that depend on sleep tracking.  You are losing out on them when you don't wear your Sense to sleep, especially if you are taking advantage of the free Premium trial.
