Distance Measurement?

When you go for, say a walk, and don't actually touch an "Exercise" type before starting, just let the Sense determine your distance, it is it determined by your phone's GPS, or is it somehow measured by the Sense itself?

Hi @WehuttyWanker.

If you let the Sense auto detect the walk it will be measured using the devices accelerometer. I believe the calculation is number of steps multiplied by stride length (set in your profile).

Try this from the app

1. Click your icon on the today screen

2. Scroll down and click Activity and Wellness

3. Click Exercise

4. Scroll down and click Stride Length

If the Set Automatically slider is on, Fitbit will calculate your running stride length based on GPS recorded runs and your walking stride length is based on your height. To manually change either field, you have to turn off Set Automatically, at which point you can change to values in either or both fields to the the stride length you’ve calculated, which will then be used to calculate distance in auto-detected runs and walks.  (GPS will still calculate distance if you start the activity from the watch rather then use auto detect.
