I like the Ionic form factor much more than the versa (and now sense) which kind of look like Apple Watch imitations. I realize the official line is that Fitbit will "release another product in the Ionic family at some stage" and I won't get information on designs for future products. However; I was wondering it the fact the Sense adopted the Apple Watch rounded edges meant that that the new Ionic might shift from its unique angular aesthetic to the Apple Watch shape?
I have gone through 2 Ionics (which I loved) over the last few years and have been waiting for it's replacement. I have a Versa since it was on sale last holiday season (when my second Ionic died). I had been hoping for a new watch being released this year; but, I had not been expecting a new model.

Actually I feel the real successor of Ionic is the Versa 3 but anyway the substance is the same.
And I agree with you, I like Ionic form factor much more but it seems we are in minority.

Well, in terms of feature parity the Versa 3 and the Ionic are almost the same (onboard music is the only difference I can think of). However, when the Ionic came out it was one of very few options with a Bluetooth connection to headphones and GPS. Keeping all features the same, the Versa 3 could be considered the Ionic successor. But, if I had to pick between the two I would argue that all the fancy new sensors on the Sense make it the spiritual successor to the Ionic.
Unfortunate they both have the same Apple Watch shaped frame, I wish they had at least done another form factor, even if they did move away from the angular shape of the Ionic.
I guess this way Fitbit lowers their manufacturing costs since they have have economies of scale working for them. Although the sense is still $30 more expensive than the Ionic was at launch.

I actually agree with those expressing their fondness for Ionic. I still have mine and it still works great but what REALLY bugs me is why Fitbit can't make it so you can register more than one Fitbit in the app allowing you to go back and forth. It does let me put a put any device in there coupled with the Flex. Big deal. Seems to me Fitbit is losing money doing that. Anyway, I too was wondering about what this means for the Ionic. Doesn't look good though. FYI: I own the Versa 2, Charge 4 and have also pre-ordered the Sense. I've had my beefs over the years with Fitbit devices but I have yet to find an app I like nearly as much as the Fitbit app. It makes all the difference.

You wont have an issue with adding both a non fibit OS tracker and a newer tracker to your Fitbit account.
It has been explained that the app store was written in a way that it can only handle one tracker attached to the account.
Fitbit has said that they are working on rewriting the App Store and testing. Hopefully this will be implemented and at that time I'm sure that there will be some bugs to work out.

I have a charge 2 and a ionic working fine in my iPhone fitbit app
why can’t I do the same with Sense & ionic?

For those wondering about the Ionics future, go up on Fitbit's own website and try to buy one! Face it the Ionic is Dead and will not be returning. Now I think it's great that the Versa and Sense can reportedly tell you if you have Sleep apnea or a faster then normal heartbeat, but I want a watch that I can track my runs and bike rides with and also one that I can stream music from to my wireless headphones like the Ionic. At the moment to get this I have to spend $300 plus dollars on a new watch and then another $120 a year on a music service and of course then there is Fitbits own service which they will no doubt try to get me to buy. So for now, I will stick with my Ionic because it gives me exactly what I am looking for!

The Charge 2 and the Ionic have fundamentally very different software. Let's just leave it at that.

@ConnieL429 @NeilFinny as stated above this will require smart multitracker support. This is entirely different.

Actually you can put music on the Versas and Sense locally (stuff you've already bought and downloaded) but if you want to download something like Spotify then you need a subscription. The Fitbit Versa 2 is currently $179. I hate to say it but sometimes you really do get what you pay for. All of the Fitbits are still way cheaper than the Apple watch

@ConnieL429 no, you can't put locally songs on Versa 3 and Sense (you can do it on Versa 1/2 and Ionic although)

Hey, I really liked the Ionic as well though I wasn't crazy about that ridiculous buckle that stuck out so far. I have the Sense now and I totally love it. It's a LOT nicer looking with a much more premium build and FINALLY it has the kind of band I prefer (tucks under). I guess if you compare them, the Versa 3 is probably closer to the Ionic but the Sense is now the Flag Ship device. I think a lot of people (not me) were turned off by the Ionic's "chunkiness." You can like the Ionic and still appreciate the Sense. I own both but of course Fitbit doesn't allow you to have them both registered in the app at the same time. I hung onto my Ionic because nothing else was as good but I am sold on the Sense and what it provides.
