Exiting sleep mode and tips on button use

Just got my new Sense yesterday, and so far I am loving it, but a couple of wrinkles I can't figure out:

1)  Turning on Sleep Mode seems like a good idea, so I don't get notifications, etc. while sleeping, but once in Sleep Mode, how do I get out of it? Is there a way on the Sense itself? Is there a way in the Android app to cancel Sleep Mode? If the answer is to hit the virtual button on the left side of the Sense, then that leads into my second questions...

2)  I cannot figure out the virtual button. At all. I understand it's on the left side of the device, and I see a long groove along the left side that I guess is supposed to be the button, but it takes on average, no exaggeration, 50 tries before the Sense vibrates and confirms that I successfully activated the button. What am I doing wrong, or is my Sense defective? Is there a way to control the sensitivity of the button? How does the button work, is it sensing a change in light, or sensing my touch somehow?

3)  How does step counting work? Is the app on my Android phone doing the counting and relaying this to the Sense, or is the Sense itself doing the counting? I ask because I live in a cold climate, and during a walk I took last night I had my hands in my coat pocket for most of the walk, so my arms, and my Sense, weren't moving much at all. But the Sense still recorded all my steps, so how does it work?

Thanks!

To disable Sleep Mode, start at the clock face of your Sense. Swipe right and tap the crescent moon. You should see a message that sleep mode is disable. Then - and this is important - return to the clock face. This sets your choice.

The button can be a challenge, especially for those of us (me) who have arthritis in the fingers. What  works for many people is this - place your forefinger at the right side of the Sense while pressing the button, covering as much of that side as you can with your thumb.

3)  How does step counting work? Is the app on my Android phone doing the counting and relaying this to the Sense, or is the Sense itself doing the counting? Here is the explanation from the Help site. But a trick I’ve learned (since I‘m in Michigan and it gets pretty cold here, too!) is to remove the watch and place it in a front pocket of your jeans. This way, it will pick up more motion.

Hope this helps.

Hi Carol,

Thanks for your reply!  With your suggestion, I've gotten much better with the button. On exiting from Sleep Mode, the problem is that I couldn't even get the watch face, the Sense was completely black. But maybe now that I'm better with the button, that's the way to exit from Sleep Mode.  I've tested the step counter, and it's pretty good at picking up steps even if I have my hand in my pocket, so it must be very sensitive.

Thanks for your help!

Joe
