Fitbit Sense wrong stair count

I have a Fitbit Sense which counts far more staring climbing than I climbing. It even show me climbing stairs in my sleep. I contacted Fitbit chat and was told that the stair count utilizes an accelerometer and/or altimeter to count the stairs, to steps for each floor.  This defect make me wonder about the reliability of other components of my Fitbit Sense.   The warranty states "new (the "New Product(s)") shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase"  When I  pressed to have the defective Fitbit Sense replaced under the one year warranty, I was told that the Fitbit Sense is not warrantied for this defect. The Chat was then abruptly ended by the Fitbit service provider. This is an example of poor Fitbit service.

All Fitbit trackers that count stairs going all the way back to the One suffer this malady. It is because an altimeter that senses small changes in barometric pressure. I once walked 5 miles on flat ground and had over a thousand flights recorded. By chance do you sleep in front of a fan at night with the window open? That could account for it. It's not a defect, that's how it works.

Curious where you ran at.  Could it be that the ground seemed rather flat but had slight variations in incline/decline over that distance?

My old Charge HR and my Sense do pretty well.  Only time I have noticed an issue is while driving.  I'm in Western WA state, so while I live mostly at sea level, driving tends to have a lot of ups and downs, hard to find a straight, level road on this side of the mountains.

I've also read that it's reads about 1 floor for every 8 ft in elevations change.  I'm not sure if there is a baseline or if it's cumulative. So if you went up half a floor, then back down, then up half a floor again, would it read as 1 floor or 0?

I think the Sense has a problem. My Ionic tracks stairs perfectly. The Sense counts nothing… or maybe 1 set for every 10 climbed. Very disappointing.
