What is the best way to prepare a watch, clock faces, apps and settings ready for sending to someone as a gift so they don't have to set it up, but just attach it to their account?

There's no way to do that.  Once they attach it to their account, the device will reset itself as if it were a brand-new device.

Does that mean all the setup on the watch I prepared will not be of any help at all?

 

Does it also mean when I put back my own watch onto my account I will have to start completely from scratch and lose everything I had setup on it?

 

Isn't there any option to switch between watches on an account without having to start from scratch each time?
