How to turn off the function that GPS turns on automatically

How can I avoid or turn off that the GPS automatically turns on when I walk fast or jog - an exercise starts then. I don't want that because I have to charge the battery so often then. (I rather want to turn on an exercise myself, when I need to)

Hi I have turned off as many gps tracking as I can find I don’t need it so it’s just a needless drain on the battery I went into exercise and looked for what exercises use gps and turned them off like jogging bike riding hope this is a help

Thank you - I found something that is ON: "recognise training activities automatically" - perhaps if I turn this OFF, the GPS will not turn on???? - But will it turn on when I choose a walk or jog myself, because I will often like to have the map afterwards to see the route I have chosen.

@randijaa   The experience you are describing in your first post is coming from a specific Run Detect that is part of the Run exercise shortcut.  It is on by default.  Please do the following to turn it off:

  • Select your Run exercise shortcut
  • Swipe up on the tiny "^" at the bottom of the screen
  • Swipe up (and up) until you get to Run Detect and toggle it to Off
  • Swipe down until you get back to the start screen

Your second post sounds like the settings for SmartTrack, the auto-recognized activities.  Changes there won't affect the Run Detect.  Fix the Run Detect, then use the Exercise app for all your other activities like normal,

OK. Thank you - I have the text in Norwegian on the watch - so this is something I do on the screen. Should I switch OFF both for walk and run then. And when I want to set up an exercise I do it manually, and the GPS will turn on when I want it?
PS. I found this "detect" only for run, not for walk - is that so?, and I turned it OFF - then you think the GPS will not automatically turn ON. I think battery time is the same as with the ionic I had. Only four days.

Upps - I have turned on or off something that caused a loss of my daily walking - the last two days I do not have the information on how far and when started etc. Can anyone give me a hint on how to get it back? (I don't know if it is enough that I turn on "detect run" - did so now.
I mean this file I want to have back (see clip) - and when clicking that one can see time started etc

I think it was sorted out when I put in this again - detect after ten minutes:

@randijaa   After reading both your posts, your settings look like you solved your issue.  The Run Detect is only in the Run shortcut.  Not in Walk or any others.  It looks like your walks will get tracked, just like they did on Mar 18.

Thank you - you are right. Think I understand a little more now, and it is solved (for now). I see that it is only on RUN you have this detect on the clock screen and not on WALK. And that I need to have this 10 Minutes turned on for all.
