Lost data after re-pairing tracker

I noticed my tracker hadn't synced for a few days and so was trying to fix the bluetooth connection. I manually unpaired the tracker from my phone, then went through the Fitbit app to add the Sense again as a "replacement". Initially it timed out trying to connect as a new device but worked after I rebooted my phone. In hindsight, I should've done this first which I think would've fixed things.

Now the tracker is syncing again but it seems like last few days data is lost. Is this expected - re-pairing the tracker would wipe the data on it?

I tried asking support but was told the data resets every day and the tracker needs to be constantly syncing for data to be saved... which doesn't make sense and now my past experience with Fitbit.

I can see that if you added it as a new device, and it said you already has one and asked if this was a replacement, then, yes, it would wipe all the data in storage from it.  I would think once you say you are adding a new device, Fitbit would treat it as a device that you had been gifted, or had gifted to someone else and wipe all personal data.  At least that would be my guess.

At least in my terminology, I would call what you apparently did, a step further than "re-pairing".  Maybe just semantics but to me re-pairing is just re-establishing bluetooth connection, not completely reconnecting whole smart watch as a new device.

Is there a way to actually re-establish the bluetooth connection though? As in, pair the phone and tracker again if they've been unpaired? I tried this directly using the phone bluetooth but got an error about the pin code being wrong.

I found an answer online about needing to go through adding the tracker again to trigger pairing again. Just didn't realise that would wipe my data, otherwise I would've held off...

You probably had no choice.
