SPO2 monitoring drains the battery

I charge my watch to 100% every day. When I first got it, I used the SPO2 clockface. The battery would be down to 80% by morning. I got tired of the terrible clockface and started using my own and the battery would stay at 87% or more by morning. I recently upgraded and installed the SPO2 app and now my battery is down to 80% every morning again. This makes no sense, because, as I understand it, the watch monitors SPO2 regardless, but only reports if you have a clockface or the app.

I've been experiencing an increase in battery drain since the latest update as well. I wasn't exactly tracking the battery prior to the update, but if I remember correctly I would typically lose 5-6% battery during the night (8-9 hours of sleep, sleep mode enabled) and approx. 10-13% for a 24 hour period depending on usage; over the last two nights with a similar amount of time in sleep mode I've lost 11-13% of my battery; overall yesterday losing 20% of my battery in a 24 hour period.

Since the update I've made no changes to my watch settings or clock faces (I use a non-SpO2 face) and have had the always on display disabled both prior to and after the update - there definitely seems to be something that has changed with the last update that is significantly (i.e doubling) battery usage.

I've noticed a slight hit in battery life since the spo2 app was installed.  Before the update I would go through around 25% battery per day with the always on display active and about 30 minutes GPS use.  I'm now using a spo2 watch face and I'm using about 5-10% more battery.  To be honest, I'm ok with that as charging the Sense each morning whilst I'm preparing to venture out keeps it topped up.
