Update 6/14/2021:

This update should now be available to all customers! If you have any difficulty updating, make sure you are following the directions in this article, and then provide as many specific details as possible in your post so that we can assist.

We’re excited to announce that a firmware update for Sense will be available soon!  Some of you may already have this update available - if you installed it, let us know what you think!

If you don’t see the update yet, that’s expected. Check the Fitbit app in a few days, and you’ll see a message when you can install the update. We expect everyone to receive the update in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience while we get this update to all of our customers.

Did you know that we gradually release our updates? We do this to make sure everything is working just right for you. Sometimes we find an issue and it might take a little longer than expected for everyone to get the update. While you might see suggestions on how to “force” an update, we ask that you don’t try any of these workarounds. Most of the time the update won’t be available and you can lose data or encounter other difficulties. The best way to get the update is to be patient and wait for the update banner to appear in the Fitbit app.

Does the app open when swiping and using the tile?

The tile was gone as well! It's back now after updating the ECG app on the phone.

Since Fitbit seems to be keeping this update & it's changelog close to the chest, I'm passing along what I found on CNET.  I don't have this update yet, so I can't verify this myself.  No mention on when the update will be available to everyone.  Until Fitbit gets around to letting us know something official, we have to assume it's part of a slow roll-out.

Here's what else is new in the OS 5.2 update:

  • Blood oxygen tracking will now show up on your wrist alongside the rest of your stats in the Today dashboard. You'll also be able to see your nightly value and range from the last night on the watch.
  • High and low heart-rate notifications come to the Versa 3, the same as the Sense. You can get a notification on the watch and in the app if the Versa detects your heart rate going above or below your set threshold.
  • Google Assistant can now speak responses back to you, like when you set an alarm or tell you sleep metrics.
  • A new clock face switcher lets you swap out watch faces with a long press on the main clock.
  • Two new goal celebrations are available when you reach your main goal.
  • Notifications now support Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi and Thai.

There is no secret here since they announced it on their official blog yesterday: https://blog.fitbit.com/fitbit-third-update/

Ah! Good to see something more official (no shade at CNET). I'll have to add blogging to my list of sources! 🤣 Nice catch!

It's a bit less of a secret, BUT this isn't a great way to roll out an update. Completely ignoring the distinct lack of a changelog for users who got the update, announcing a "Fitbit OS Update" more than a week after confused users were asking what was in it isn't exactly a model for transparency. It doesn't mention basic details like what version this is or when it will be available. On the contrary it says "So, don’t wait! Discover all this new OS update has to offer today." to a user that has to wait because no update is available yet. Prior to Binging this and finding the CNET article, I went to the Fitbit sites What's changed in the latest Fitbit device update? and What's changed in the latest Fitbit OS update? which still show "Version 44.128.4.17" and "Fitbit OS 5.1.1" as the current versions. Further, usually as an update rolls out someone will post a stickied thread (like this one) here in the Sense forums, as of right now there's nothing.

I understand things are tough and Fitbit is in the middle of a business transition during the tail end of a pandemic. Still, as a long time Fitbit user and an early adopter of the Sense, I've been really disappointed by the multitude of problems with this watch and the seeming lack of support behind the product. I get it taking a day or two to get messaging on an update under control, but it took 9 days after the first person I saw ask about it for them to vaguely acknowledge it in a blog and even that blog had to be pointed out by another user rather than an acknowledgment or announcement by a Fitbit rep. Maybe it's just that lingering buyer's remorse, but I'd like to have seen this handled a little better.

Will be upsetting if they also don't fix any of the bugs on the sense right now (floor count is drastically overcounting, heart rate inconsistencies, tap to wake doesn't respond, etc)

Can anyone comment if they fixed HR tracking which many of us have complained about?

Best Answer

I wish they would stop all of the effort to add non essential features and spend all their resources on fixing the heart rate monitoring so that all of the other functions (amount of food to consume versus calories burned, active zone minutes etc). Looking at the change log for this upgrade they did not bother to address this flaw.

I updated yesterday but was disappointed to see that the hourly activity bug that was discussed back in November hasn't been fixed.

a more realistic ETA would be appreciated vs over the next couple weeks?  Or send us all new devices. Mine is only a few months old.  I have been a loyal Fitbit user since 2014 and am on my 6th device. They break way to easily and are not cheap.

disappointed.

i am this close (1 day) from to moving to Apple Watch.

I ran the update yesterday. Doesn't look like they've fixed anything. No surprise since Fitbit doesn't seem to acknowledge the Sense has any issues. They're digging their own grave on this one. The more the public learns how inaccurate it is and the lack of support the fewer people will buy the Sense. Maybe Fitbit has given up on it and will let it die. Pathetic really.

I have not received the update yet @Irac but is there a way to way to enable / disable snore monitoring after update.  I would only want to use this every now and then and not have it enabled all the time and draining the battery.

I haven't gotten a notice to update yet, but I would like to know if it's going to fix the bug where it's showing the daily miles in km rather than actual miles like it is set for?

The timer app no longer keeps the screen on while the stopwatch or countdown is active.  Looks like a workaround is to enable always-on display.  Is there any way to keep the screen on with timers when always-on display is disabled?

Almost worse, the change log says "This release includes bug fixes and improvements.".  In other words, maybe they did, and maybe they didn't, but they certainly aren't going to tell us. We get to go through the laundry list of bugs ourselves to see what if anything actually was fixed!

Hope this will fix all the issues below I’m currently having with Sense:

- unable to sync

- fail to connect to home WiFi (never had this issue in the past)

- not getting phone messages (related to point #2)

- constantly unpairing

I have also tried troubleshooting countless times:

- Reset Bluetooth connection

- Reboot both phone and sense

- DL latest iOS

- reset WiFi

I thought it was only me but found out through this forum that others are having somewhat similar issues (at least the unable to sync issue)

Could someone please advise what is happening here and the solutions? Many thanks!

I’ve had all of these problems except the unpairing, which I only did manually to try to fix things. I gave up on getting messages back when I had a versa, have never gotten messages to work on my sense.
