I have noticed some people have been having the opposite issue of me...my android phone will connect via Bluetooth to sense controls but will not connect to sense. I have had trouble keeping my incoming text messages working even even my phone is right on me...works for about an hour then disconnects. When I try to connect to sense it says I need an app to do so but I do have the fitbit app. Do I need to forget sense from my bluwtooth options and just stay with sense controls?
Moderator edit: clarified subject.

You can try removing just the Sense Bluetooth entry
A popup notification should appear and clicking on it will open the pairing linking options. see pictures which should setup your Sense Bluetooth correctly.
You may also want to check your optimizations for the loss of syncing [which is may be why you don't get notifications] to make sure the Fitbit App is running in background.
On the phone check battery optimizations [the options may be different in your version]

I have this exact problem with the Sense and Sense Controls, only I can't get notifications to work at all. Sense Controls is connected but Sense say I need an app, even though it's running. I have a Samsung S21. I have tried many different things. Anyone?

Hi @itsjustkt - to get notifications to work your watch has to sync with the Fitbit App.
Sense controls is not used for notifications and it and Sense Bluetooth entries cannot be paired in Bluetooth. The app must do it as the message says.
If your watch is syncing swipe the watch face to the right to get to Quick Settings and make sure Sleep and do not disturb icons are turned off.
If they are set correctly check the setup in the Fitbit App. Click profile photo, device photo and Notifications and inside App notifications..
If you sometimes get notifications while the app is ruining in foreground but then not other times, check the battery saving settings.
