Sense didn't track sleep stages

I got my sense a few weeks ago. I do get my SpO2, Skin temperature, HRV, RHR, but I have only got BR and sleep stages one night. I have adjusted the band up and down, tried it loose and tight, changed the arm, rebooted the phone and sense without success. I have noticed that I have to log out of Fitbit when I have used the mindfulness app or the relax app. If I do not I will not be able to log see anything in the Mindfulness app. I will be thrown back to the previous page

Hi everyone. It's great to have you on board. @Rich_Laue and @FloppyDrive, thanks for your insights and great tips.

Thanks for letting me know that your Sense isn't tracking sleep stages correctly. Before anything else, let me explain that the sleep stages are required to record certain data, such as sleep scores, Stress Management or Sleeping Heart Rate. That being said, because there are some factors that may prevent you from getting sleep stages, please confirm the following:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed).
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

Additionally, please log out from the Fitbit app, check if the Fitbit app is updated, try restarting your watch one more time, log back in to the Fitbit app, sync your watch, try wearing it higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone) to sleep and check your data after waking up.

@PerHaugen, in regards to the Mindfulness tab in the Fitbit app, do you see an error message when opening it? Or does the app crash? Also, about the language in the Fitbit app, have you made sure the correct language is set in the Fitbit app? Please note that the Fitbit app may take into consideration the language set in your phone. You'll find more details to change the language here.

@JACherry, just to confirm, is the heart rate recorded correctly? Have you tried adjusting the band on your wrist? Also, have you wore your watch for at least 3 consecutive nights to generate your personal baseline skin temperature?

I'll look forward to your response.

Did the Fitbit app give you a reason for seeing simple sleep?

No, I got no warning from the sleeping app. I also have to add that I only have got a Stress management score the one night I got sleep stages. If I start the Relax on the Sense watch I get no data transferred to the app. The same is also with the EDA scan. The watch have information, but those are not transferred to the app.

I also noticed on several occasions that the app changes the language between English, Netherland, Sweden, and Norway. I’m living in Norway, so it seems that something is not quite adjusted yet.

Wow you are lucky, I haven't had HRV, BR, Sleep score or Skin temp since I bought it.

Suddenly I have got two nights with registered sleep stages. I wonder whether this is due to a slight increase in resting heart rate that has increased from 35/36 to 37/38? I have also got registered BR.

Best Answer

@PerHaugen  you have a resting heart rate of 37 ? And I thought with my 44-52 at night I was at risk.

Best Answer

Do you see it complete syncing within the app? Can you manually sync?

Best Answer

I do not think that the low heart rate is the reason behind the lack of measurement (HR, BR ++). I have more than 30 nights with the watch and only it was only 3 times that I got a result.

Did you try logging into your Fitbit dashboard on their website and set sleep tracking to sensitive? Not sure if this option works with the Sense, but it's something to try.

Well for my part the HR is being recorded just fine, how accurate is subject for debate though but it is in the ball park.

I am wearing it properly and as advised in the instructions.

I have worn it daily for over 20 hours a day for over 4 WEEKS!

I have worn it to bed nightly, avg over 7 hours. My sleep is recorded and SPO but no sleep scores.

I am NOT getting sleep scores, Skin Temp, BR, or HRV at all.

I ensure it is always has above 60% charge before going to bed.

Also, what does work is often wildly inaccurate and easily influenced by moving the arm the watch is on. I scratched my head and it recorded 15 steps.

"If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed)."

What difference would this make? Are you not supposed to do the begin sleep now? If not then why put it there?

I tried to logg into Fitbit dasboard but I could not find any place where I got set the sleep sensivity.

I did log out on Fitbit app and restarted the sense watch and no I have got measurement 5 of the latest 7 days. I can also se results in the Health Metrics. However the results in the stress management seems to be partly wrong and I am also surprised that my resting heart rate during those days have increased from 35/36 up to 40/41 the last night. If I look at the measurement during the night it show  around 36 – 38.

Once you login into the Dashboard...

Click on your profile picture in the top right, then click on the watch image in the top right.

On the left menu->Sense->Sleep Tracking

I have not noticed a difference when setting it to Sensitive.

Thank you for the reply, but on the left menu->Sense->  I do not get Sleep Tracking. I get Clocks, Apps, Media, Wallet .... below comes Sync, Reminders to move,   Wrist, WiFI  setup, Device Lock and at last Remove Sense . No sleep tracking.  It is the same on the desktop version as on my Huawei Phone

You are in the application. I am referring to their website - https://www.fitbit.com/settings/device/

If you are using IOS, the setting might be available in the App.

Hi @JACherry@PerHaugen and @FloppyDrive. It's good to see again.

@JACherry, thanks for getting back with the requested information. The Begin Sleep Now is an option to manually log your sleep when your watch isn't nearby or for the members, for example if it's charging or if you forget to take it with you on a trip. Because your data will be logged directly from the Fitbit app you will receive sleep patterns, however your detailed sleep data won't be recorded. Please use your watch to sleep without doing anything on the Fitbit app, sync once you're awake and let me know how it goes.

@PerHaugen, thanks for your efforts. Give a try to the suggestion posted by @FloppyDrive and make sure to double check the details described in my post. If you continue having issues with the sleep stages not being tracked, let me know so I can help you out.

Keep me posted.

Thank you very much.  I have for the two or three lasts week tried with higher sleep sensitivity.  Unfortunately, this seems not to work. I still seldom get sleep stages recorded. I am also suspicious that it has affected the resting HR. During the night my HR falls below 40. Normally 35 – 36, but my HR in Fitbit seems to rise after I altered the sensitivity. I also must add that I have compared my HR on Fitbit with the HR shown on my SPO2 finger monitor and with my arm blood pressure meter several occasions during the daytime. Fitbit shows a value between 15 – 20 more HR

I've been doing everything in your response correctly, but still sense did not track my sleep...really frustrating. And HR accuracy is really off. Way higher than the actual HR by around 10-20 bits.

I have tried all the suggestions that we got from LizzyFitbit with no success. During the last month the Sense have only five times been able to register sleep stages and BR and the registered HR is wrong by 25 – 25 beats/minute to much most of the time.  However, Skin temperature and SpO2 and HRV seems to be correct all the time.

My wife also has a Sense but seems to get allergic reaction from the watch. She has none of the problems that I have, but she must stop wearing it due to this problem. She will stop using it for some days and perhaps turn back to her Ionic.

Suddenly it seems to work. I have during the last 10 nights got   my sleep stages, SpO2, Skin temperature, HRV, RHR, BR meassured. I have had the Sense since september and only now and then it has registered this....perhaps only 10 times during this period. What has happened ?
