Sense floor count is frustrating

I just switched from Versa2 to Sense and i'm deeply frustrated with the floor count for one (1) main reason: it doesn't consistently give me a floor when I climb a flight of 13 stairs from my basement. Whereas a causual stroll across my deck yields 5 floors, I can't get one from actually goung up & down steps. I did nit have this problem with Versa 2.

Due to the lack of consistency in awarding 'floors' i'm unsure what to do.

Hi @LisaTailspin  Fitbit doesn't count flights of stairs going down, only those going up and you need to have your hands off the railings and the stairs be at least ten feet high.

@LisaTailspin , a lot of others are experiencing that as well. It's supposed to be fixed with the next firmware update. Here is another thread on it: Sense is counting too many floors

Thank you. I get what you're saying. It seems, though, that going down a flight of steps, while not counted, should trigger both the altimeter and barometer. Regardless, Sense is not counting flights up. Versa 2 tracked floors very well so i'm ruling out any concrete issues.

Thank you! My Sense doesn't count a flight stairs, at all.

Waiting on a fix! I was hitting 50 a day and looking at 75 - now i'm just *blech* 😁😊

I had to change my watch face because it was so annoying to see it all the time. I've also hidden it in the app, at least until the firmware update comes out.

i have spent hours trying to find an answer.  i'm a premium user with corporate paid account and only reply I got from email is that they should get back to me in a week or more.  I have had various different fitbits for over 5 years and this is the first time i've had a significant problem.  on March 15 something happened (can't find out if there was an update that day) that caused stairs to register 62.  One flight will register 3 or more. Fitbit  has never had anything better than poor support but hoped google's purchase would have changed that.  it is worse.  When i was looking to upgrade was considering switching to Apple but decided not to as battery life not as good, based on reviews.  Sense is no prize in holding a charge and not having any confidence in accuracy of other features.  this may be the end of my relationship with fitbit.

Ummmm...my question/issue/concern was NOT answered. The Sense is a real piece-of-crap. The makers of this allegedly 'smart' watch have one job and by my calculations they should be fired. I don't trust any of the calculations because they're simply incorrect.

Just a heads up, it was said the stairs are fixed in a later firmware.

I am 3 maybe 4 updates ahead it is not fixed!!!

It is a bit better as I am not getting 10x or more floors than I should be getting but I do get floors while walking on the treadmill.....

I just switched to a sense, and it is not counting my flights of stairs going up either. It is very frustrating.

I got a Sense for Christmas.  I just started wearing it today.  I have gotten 0 stairs, even though I have walked up the 16 stairs in my house at least 4 times today.  With my Ionic, it always counted them.  Unfortunately, this is one of the many issues I've had with the Sense so far on day 1.

Have you tried the SimpleFloors app?

You can use it to test if the pressure sensor of your watch is working and whether it counts floors better.

It's only a test tool but at least you will know better what's happening.

I have been having this issue with my Versa 2 more and more frequently.  I assumed it was just getting old and wearing out.

So I bought a Sense and started using it today.  It is doing the exact same thing and it is brand new.

That tells me that this is a software issue that Fitbit needs to fix!!!!  ASAP!!!

They also have had food log issues that started a week ago is well.  Not sure what is going on at Fitbit.  But I will start looking for other products.  I am sick of the way Fitbit ignores their customers and takes forever to fix issues.

This is not the best answer.  Fitbit really needs to add down votes so that they get a count of how many people it did NOT work for.

I finally gave up on Fitbit and went to Apple.  Battery life is not as bad as I expected.  Missing some features but ahead in others, but far superior in measuring activity.  I wore my Fitbit for water aerobics and thought I wasn't getting a cardiac workout until I wore Apple and got different results.  Measures stairs accurately and if I forgot my watch upstairs, can enter manually.  No longer losing bluetooth connection--thought it was my phone but was the watch. Don't know how support compares to Fitbit as I no longer have to contact support, watch works.

Best answer? How? This response dodged the issue, ignored the question and chose instead to  focus on a fragment of a sentence that has nothing to do with the issue.
Fitbit Sense doesn’t count floors accurately.

Just discovered my Sense counts floors if I go one step-at-a-time but counts nothing if I go up two steps-at-a-time.

I keep getting ridiculously high stair counts.  This started after an update almost two years ago.  They changed their algorithm to one that plainly doesn't work, yet refuse to fix it or give users the choice of using the old method.  (My old Fitbit Charge 2 did a great job counting stairs.)  Judging by the results of a quick web search, thousands of customers are suffering with the same problem.

It seems like the height of arrogance to refuse to fix this.  (I won't mention the really flaky charging cables for the Sense since that's covered in a different topic.)

I hate to say this, but Fitbit has a habit of gaslighting all the consumers. I never have had a problem with my Fitbit sense regarding flights of stairs. I have not gotten, my cents wet, I keep it charged, and suddenly it’s recording 400 flights of stairs a day. And it has nothing to do with the air pressure because I’ve been in the same place and there’s not been any air pressure fluctuations around here. This is once again another example of Fitbit gaslighting consumers. I read through the entire community complaint about this and there’s all kinds of repetitive explanations of why it’s malfunctioning. customer service is the worst with Fitbit when mine dies that’s it. If you can’t fix it, just say you can’t fix it instead of gaslighting us with your silly, silly explanations.
