Sense is tracking too many steps when driving the forklift

I started a new position in a warehouse last month. I noticed that my step count has increased, but I believe that although I do a lot of walking, the majority of my 10-hour day "steps"  are actually registered from the forklift. I Want an accurate tracker. I wear my sense on my non-dominant wrist and while I'm driving the forklift I switch hands using the steering controls. I'm not completely sure that wearing it on my ankle would make a huge difference since my wrist movements aren't completely in sync with the controls. My sense seems to register the actual forklift speed as a walking speed. If someone could explain how wearing that on my ankle instead of my wrist would make a difference I would appreciate it so much. Or a more accurate tracker would be even better. I'm actually surprised that there is not a setting for this issue. Or a better alternative than taking off my sense while I'm driving the forklift only to put it back on when I'm actually walking because I get off the forklift sometimes a couple times an hour. Anyway, any insight would be phenomenal.PEACE

Fitbit interprets certain wrist movements as walking because that's all it can actually see.  It could be from using your hands on the steering controls, or it might just be the vibrations on the forklift, such as some people complain of getting many extra steps while driving, particularly trucks and delivery drivers, likewise bicycling.  If you are getting the steps from general vibrations, then I don't know if ankles would help.  But if steps are from using hands on controls, then wearing on ankles might reduce that movement, but you might not get heart rate, losing that benefit, though some say they can get heart rate at ankle but takes some trial and error; and probably want to wear under sock so doesn't fall off and get lost.
If step count is most important to you, you might consider the Inspire 3 that can be worn on wrist to get heart rate, or on clip on hip or elsewhere which is more accurate for step count, and can be switched between modes.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

is the arm you wear your tracker on primarily used for the steering wheel?  I noticed when i am driving that happens when i do the one arm turns. the motion of my arm spinning in a circle creates step counts.

I was on my motorcycle all day yesterday and it gave me over 30,000 steps.  Although I did over 500 miles, I fuel up about every 150 miles, and also take breaks where I walk around.  But I find that days I'm on the bike my steps are much higher 🤔.  But my Garmin watch doesn't give me enough steps.  I have a measured 5 mile walk, and the Garmin is about 1,000 short, I've tried adjusting it and I get the same thing.  The Sense always gives me my 10,000 steps which is what 10,000 steps should be, but if I slap my hand to the beat of the music, it records that as steps as well 🤷🏻‍:male_sign:. At work on a forklift I don't think a suspend step feature is practical as they often have to get off and back on the forklift too many times to make messing with the watch practical.  But a suspend step feature would help me for being on the bike for two hours, then it could be one of my routines getting on and off the bike.  The same with truck drivers.  Others such as delivery drivers could suspend steps for the drive to their territory, then once there, like FL drives, they get in and out too often for it to be practical.

Another thought is to disable steps over 10 mph.  Even 7' tall people with a long stride and a fast walker won't hit 10 mph when walking.  This could be a software fix for most people.  But I don't think FL drives are supposed to be driving over 10 mph in a WH so I don't know what solution for them other than a setting that tracks their normal pace and an activity selection when they get to work for forklift driver.  But they would have to determine patterns for FL driving to eliminate steps for this activity 🤔.  Now if Google could work on that, couldn't those algorithms be a software update for all watches 🤷🏻‍:male_sign:
