Sense not tracking distance accurately

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

This evening I went on my usual walk. This time I set Strava (on my phone) to record as well. Strava distance recorded 8.58km. sense recorded 6.5km. I had a feeling it wasn't recording properly. My daughter also walked with me, her sense recorded 8.5km. I'm ok with a couple a metres out... But 2kms is ridiculous. Any suggestions to fix this problem? I only purchased my sense just before Christmas last year, to replace my ionic that died.

Hi @leanne.innes have you checked your stride setting?

Hi Rich, I adjusted that last night so I'll see how my run goes today. Live chat told me to turn auto recognise off. That didn't make any difference at all. There was still over 2km difference between Fitbit and Strava.

Disabling Auto Recognize should not affect this, however, disabling the auto for exercises that you will not be doing, seems to make the display react slightly faster.

I only have 2 auto exercises enabled.

Now I'm not sure exactly why the following is.

  • Fitbit says the users running stride will be auto detected, but they can manually set it.
  • The walk stride will be calculated by age, height, and gender, who knows what else. Of course this assumes the user is an average person, which they will not be.
  • The Run stride for older trackers are also calculated this way.
  • Fitbit then goes on to say distance, during a run/walk is calculated based on GPS and the stride.
  • I can see using the stride when there is a week GPS signal, but to also use stride when the user has a nice GPS lock?
  • Therefore manually setting the stride seems to help a lot in the distsnce calculation.

This formula has helped many.

Real stride = Fitbit Stride Setting * Fitbit Distance / Real Distance

Hey Rich. These are screenshots of my walk last night. I had Strava recording in my phone. As you can see there is a huge difference between Fitbit and Strava. My daughter has a sense. Her Fitbit measured under 20 metres less than Strava. Mine is 5000 steps and nearly 4km out. I've contacted Fitbit.
