Sense shorter distance while on treadmill

Hi if I run 3.2 miles on the treadmill and set my fitbit sense on treadmill mode it shows on the fitbit that I have run just over 2 miles. How can I improve the accuracy?

Hello @RR9, welcome to the community forums!

When you're running on a treadmill, normally, most of the people hold the bars/sides of the machine so if you're running, make sure to move your arms as if you were running on the ground.

Also, keep in mind that when you're on the treadmill, you're not really moving forward but on the same place. In fact, there is no motion forward. You can also log this manually by following the steps here:

How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Hope this helps!

Many thanks for this. I was also aware of how to log an exercise but thankyou for adding it in the reply. When you manually log it adjusts the steps for that day but if there are additional steps it dies not seem to count them in any challenges- is this correct? So, in summary - what is best for a treadmill run - fitbit track or manually add? Are there any treadmills that link to fitbit? Many thanks. RR9

If your steps are being counted correctly, I would check your stride setting.

Note that the users stride will change with the treadmills speed.

@RR9, thanks for your reply! @Rich_Laue, it's great to see you around and thanks for your input!

@RR9, regarding your question, manually logged activities and activities tracked through third-party apps aren't included in your challenge total. At this time, only steps from your Fitbit device or MobileTrack count towards a challenge.

If you would like that steps tracked by your Fitbit device sync to your Challenges, then I would say it would be great if you can continue tracking your treadmill run using your Fitbit device.

Adding to what @Rich_Laue said, I'd recommend visiting the following link: How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?. In this link, you will also get information about how to adjust your stride length on your Fitbit account.

Hope this helps!
