Sense tracked too many steps while I was sleeping

I just woke up and saw that my Sense counted 10,706 steps while sleeping from 5 a.m to 5.15 a.m

Anyone faced this issue before? How can I delete those steps from the app as I tried and couldn't, or any other way to remove them?

Do you know how this has been addressed?  For example, every week or two I get 1,000's of steps in a short period of time in the middle of the night.  It's very unrealistic to get that many steps even if I was awake.  For example, I got 15k steps while sleeping last night in 30 min.  I've see tons of reports of this issue on the boards without a single explanation or obvious solution.  My workaround is to mark that time as "driving" which erases the steps.  But I've been doing that for months and now I really would like a fix.  Thanks.

Hi there, @_Jacques_. Thanks for stopping by in the Community Forums and trying to troubleshoot the issue with your Sense before reaching out here.

Do you have another app connected to your Fitbit account that will add more steps? Mobiletrack maybe? Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

With the above being said, I'd suggest you to check if MobileTrack is causing the extra steps. I've seen many users (including myself) who had have this issue and at the end we realize that MobileTrack was the one adding steps while we were sleeping. It would worth the try to double check this.

Hope that helps.

Hi there, @hanskwb. Welcome on board.

As a friendly reminder, please not wrist trackers count steps depending on the movement of your arms. Fitbit has worked hard to make sure that our devices do not pick up false steps or activity recordings while driving. Unless you're driving in a car with a very stiff transmission or on bumpy roads, your device should not give you false readings. Also, if you place it in a surface with something vibrating or if you make hard hand movements. You can learn more about how your Fitbit tracks steps by checking the article: How accurate are Fitbit devices?

Regarding to your question, please know that there are 2 ways you can prevent this from happening while you drive:

1. You can plug your tracker into the charging cable while you are driving -- the Fitbit will not count steps while it is charging.
2. You can log the driving manually by following the steps in this article

Hope that helps.

@hanskwb To mark the time as driving, you go into the Exercise section of the fitbit app.  Click on the little icon in the upper right (which looks like a stop watch to me).  Then type driving or search for driving as the exercise type.  Enter the start time just before your erroneous steps and make sure the duration covers the amount of time.  That should blank out the steps.  Some times it takes a few minutes to refresh the data and actually see them removed.

@MarreFitbit  I disabled MobileTrack and that seems to have prevent the extra step counting.  Thanks for the advice!
