Sense won't sync with phone unless I open the Fitbit app

My sense will not sync with my phone unless I open the app.... I didnt have to fo this before but for some reason I have to do this daily at the moment.

As far as I know, the phone app has always had to be open to sync.  It does not have to be in the foreground, just running. I, and I expect most others, just leave the app on all the time.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Hi, @SunsetRunner, welcome to the community, you may find these articles useful How do Fitbit devices sync their data? and Why won't my Fitbit device sync? If your app is not open, you cannot know if it has synced. I leave my app running in the background, check your app tray at the Fitbit app and make sure any battery-saving facility in your phone is disabled for the Fitbit app. Some treat the Fitbit app as non-essential and put it to sleep when we need it to run constantly in the background. I often sync my Fitbit by sliding my finger down in the "Today" screen on the app just to make sure it is up to date.

Thank you for replying. I will check the settings to ensure it hasn't been put to 'sleep'. It's just a bit y strange as it always shows the "no phone" symbol on my fitbit screen and will only disappear when I open the app. Meh.

My wife got a new samsung android phone - her Sense won't sync (except manually).  I had to do a factory reset on my Motorola android phone a few days ago and it won't sync with my Sense (except manually).  I contacted support this morning and they had me verify that I had the latest Android version and the latest Fitbit device firmware.  Then they said they would have to escalate and someone would email me.  The email I got says "Unffortunately. our Fitbit app and device are not syncing automatically anymore.  We're currently working to resolve it and hope to have a fix soon. To sync your device....(instructions for manually syncing app)"

No, that's not true.  Every fitbit I've ever owned (including this Sense until the past few days) has always sync'd in the background.

Hi @ravenbrk , welcome, did you check out my advice on disabling the battery-saving function on your phone for the Fitbit app? On Samsung phones (I have an S10e) it is referred to as "Unrestricted" in the battery settings.

I haven't checked my wife's samsung yet (I'm at work) but it is already disabled on my phone.
