Sense won't track my GPS distance accurately

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

After fairly extensive testing over 8 days against a Garmin 66i, OSGB Mapping and even my old Fitbit ionic, the Sense is producing a frequent inaccuracy of between 350 - 700 meters. This makes any metric based on these readings hopelessly inaccurate E.g Average pace etc.

I’d be very interested to know how Fitbit quality check their products before release.

This needs to be a priority fix, if indeed it can be fixed by a firmware update. I’m very disappointed that even compared to the 4 year old Ionic, Fitbit appear to be moving backwards!

Hi, thank you for sharing this information about the trouble you've been experiencing with your Sense watch, @RealSting.

If the GPS is getting disconnected during your activity, the Sense may track different information for the the distance. Before considering other options, make sure to follow the steps suggested in this article.

All devices with GPS sensors require a direct path to GPS satellites to calculate location. A weak GPS signal might affect the accuracy of your route and other activity data. Your device uses your step count to calculate distance until it finds a signal, so the total distance calculated for a workout may be slightly less accurate when GPS isn't available for the entire time.

If you continue to see the same behavior and your GPS is not getting disconnected, make sure to try following the steps listed in this article to complete a restart and check if you're still experiencing the same behavior.

Hope this helps.

Hello DavideFitBit,

My tests are fairly conclusive and point to an issue with the Sense’s GPS/firmware. I didn’t mention in my previous message that the GPS was being disconnected at any point. Please read my message before responding to it -  I already know all about GPS systems Thank you very much! Watch has been reset and that makes no difference as I expected! Your link(s) point to non technical and very basic scripted answers that don’t relate to the issue, moreover, they don’t work. I’m beginning to think that the moderators on these forms are pointless as they don’t add any useful info or solve any problems.. just useless scripted answers proving their lack of knowledge.

Fitbit, pull your finger out and fix the issue(s) before I (and likely many more) leave Fitbit altogether.

@DavideFitbit , frankly, Fitbit should not stick on this kind of routine answers. You must admit that GPS inaccuracy of Sense and Versa 3 is a real issue because that is obvious. We have enough knowledge about GPS. We know how it works. In my experience, my Versa 3 always records a distance around 5% less than the actual distance. This is not within a normal error, and, as @RealSting mentioned, it makes all the data based on the distance meaningless. Fitbit, please face it, figure it out and fix it! Thank you!
