Does Fitbit send updates to either or both of the watch and app on my tablet? If so, is it automatic or do I need to start the update on my own?

For firmware updates to the watch, you will get an obvious message on your phone app when one is available to you, telling you how to install it.

For software updates to the phone app, for Android they come as app updates through the Google Play Store.  Many people have their phone set to automatically install these app updates for all apps.

I think the iPhone situation is similar, from the Apple app store rather than the Google Play Store.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Hi @AvocadoMike  - both. Updates should come to the watch eventually and the app will notify you if one has arrived.

 

You can check if one is available by going into your watch settings, About, System info menu to see the current firmware version.

 

See What's changed in the latest Fitbit device update? For the latest firmware version available.

 

For your tablet, your tablet settings determine if you automatically get updates to the app or if you have to select the pending updates manually. That depends on how you have set it up.
