I uninstalled the SpO2 watch face as I wasn’t finding it useful. However the red sensor light still seems to come on when I’m sleeping (I see it when I wake up and drop my Fitbit on the charger.)
Does this mean the SpO2 function is on regardless of the watch face? Won’t this cut in to my battery life? I thought the point of the watch face was that we didn’t need to give up this battery life if we didn’t need the data.

It is on because it reads your Spo2 variation while you sleep. But, the clock face seems to burn more battery so not using it does still seem to help.

The SpO2 runs while asleep. You can get the detail from the Fitbit app.
The SpO2 face records a lot more detail through the night.
