I bought this Sense Smart Watch to track my steps . Now I find that it counts my steps when I stand still and wave my left arm. Stupid Watch is more appropriate. I returned a much cheaper smart watch because it did the same thing. I thought Fitbit would at lease be accurate. Boy was I wrong. Does anyone know of one that counts correctly that is not a Iphone?

Hi @Texasbill these are wrist based devices and do count arm movements. Read this article - click - on how steps are calculated.

@Texasbill you can remove the extra steps - click to learn how. I've found it actually balances. If you're pushing a cart or stroller or holding something so your arm isn't swinging, you don't get those steps counted.

Tried some of these suggestions but my question is why should I need to do any of this? The Sense has GPS built in. Why can't it determine when I am moving or not. If I am not moving, it should not count steps. I still think Fitbit should provide an accurate step count.

@Texasbill to answer your question - there is no watch that does what you want. It isn't possible to detect whether you are in motion. Using the accelerometer, the acceleration is relative and carries no information about your absolute motion. This is an issue with all the wristwatches counting steps. They will count steps after detecting regular arm movement similar to the one when you walk. Just now, sitting, I just waved my arm (regular pattern) as if during walking and my Garmin watch also added a few steps because it detected regular arm motion. Apple and Samsung watches will do so, too. Some devices will have slightly better pattern recognition algorithms, other devices will be more sensitive in general you will always be getting steps for arm movements. This is how it works. Watch knows nothing about your feet whether you really walk or not. Involving GPS makes also no sense. It will eat battery quickly and you won't get a good connection (or any connection in that matter) indoor.
