Hello,
First off I had this problem also on Ionic. Then I saw FitBit mentioning that they upgraded heart rate reading technology on Sense. So I decided to go ahead and buy it. Now I have it.
But what is going on with the sudden heart rate spike? I know I am heart rate around 75 but then suddenly it reaches over 140 BPM and varies in that range for quite some time. Later it drops back to normal on it's own. I am sure I am wearing the watch correctly.
Fitbit, I really love the design and idea of the smartwatch but such tech issues are not acceptable and is really annoying.

Really? Other ones not experiencing this? No reply from Fitbit team as well? What am I doing wrong with the watch or I simply should accept the HR technology issues...

I wear a Wahoo chest strap when riding and I'll see disparities between the two over the course of 4 or 5 hours. Sometimes, usually when my heart rate is around that 75-90 range I'll see spikes into the 130 on the sense. Other times, usually when the strap is showing 130-140, I'll see numbers 20-30 lower on the Sense. At the end though, both devices are within 5-10 average beats of each other. No problem for me. Just a slight difference in the speed that the Sense picks up the changes.

so I haven't tried this with the sense, but I know on my old Alta if I washed my hands or the alta itself with hot water it would spike the HR even if I wasn't wearing it.

So I just started experiencing the same thing! My heart rate for the first week wearing it was my usual, mid 60's with a resting around 52. Then, suddenly this past Tuesday, it's 90-100bpm all the time. Nothing has changed for me, whatsoever. Either I'm getting ready to have a heart attack or the tech is bugging out.

I experience the same issue with the Sense in the past weeks. In reaches peak to 130 - 140 and then direct back. I contacted customer service about this, but i have no response yet.

I don't seem to have the same issue, but have the opposite... I have a RHR in the high 60s - low 70s, and doing a workout, busting my butt off my HR goes up to the 170's, but doesn't activate the peak sections?.
When power walking or cycling, I drift between fat burn and cardio pulse rates.

I've noticed this with my Sense, but only in certain situations. I have a walking desk and walk all day. Sometimes I rest my wrist on my desk while needing to type with 2 hands (I try to type single handedly for as much as possible to accurately log those steps 😉 ). I also occasionally put my elbow on the desk. It is only when I do this that the Sense buzzes and my heart rate appears to spike to 130-140. My thinking was that I was somewhere trapping the blood flow temporarily by doing this and that it suddenly affects what is observed. It's a pain, but those are the only scenarios in which I see this behaviour.
