The FAQ implies that Google Assistant is available in Australia, in that it doesn't say that it will be installed in ..., as it does for, for example, Sweden. However, the installation tile in the iPhone app says "Not available in your region". Anyone in Aus got this yet?

Hi @CBV2. It's always great to see you around the forums.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. As you noticed, the Google Assistant feature started to be available on Sense with the OS 5.1 version and Australia is part of the supported countries list. While it's odd that you're getting that message, please make sure the Fitbit app is set to English and your location is correct in your profile. For more details about how to verify your Fitbit profile, see this help article. If after verifying those conditions the issue persists, please provide me with the model and OS/software version of your phone.
I look forward to your response.

Hi Lizzy
Yes, my Sense is set to English and the location is shown as Australia in my profile. The iPhone is a model 12 mini, and the OS is 14.2.1, all up to date. Incidentally, I can run Google Assistant on my iPhone and it runs correctly, so far as I can see. And Alexa is not connected so there is no conflict there.

Having the same issue.
Phone language is set to English and location is shown as Australia but Google Assistant is "not available in your region".
I am running the Fitbit app on Huawei Mate 20 With EMUI version 10.1. 325

Hi @CBV2 and @WillowJF. It's great to see you around the forums.
Thanks for checking your location and providing more details about your phones. Let me share with you that while Australia appears in the supported countries list, Google Assistant will be fully available to use in Australia in late 2020 in English only. I do apologize for the misunderstanding and be sure that your comments will be passed along to work on the information displayed in our official site. Please see the Press Release for more details about the availability of the Sense's features.
Feel free to let me know if you have more questions.

@sanman202 could you please let me know where you are seeing that? Because on the link that @LizzyFitbit sent it would seem that Australia should already have it.

I think the link by @LizzyFitbit is little bit like an outlook and not the current state.
Source for the timeline is the press announcement for Fitbit OS 5.1 release:
Launching in the United States today. Voice assistant availability and features may vary, see www.fitbit.com/voice. Google Assistant coming to Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom in late 2020 in English only; Belgium, Canada (French), Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland available early 2021.

@ Vermania: Why is this ridiculous, because it's not available yet? Rome wasn't built in one day, at least allow for a few...lol

@sanman202 it's because I have expectations, if a multinational company selling a premium product cant get it's facts straight its both ridiculous and embarrassing for them. How do they plan to win market share from Apple if they cant get the basics right? If they have an approved country list they need to only list countries that are approved - this way they don't disengage and annoy customers.

You have expectations for a Google Assistant on a watch.Ok! At least it has been released in the U.S. not too long after launch and other countries are in the works. Yes they've made some mistakes over the years but the Google Assistant was mentioned that it was coming later. I don't know if Apple is in their league because most that purchase Apple Watches are I-people who already have I-phones. Anyway this is not a debate forum. I just find it interesting with priorities. The Google assistant while it's nice and cool to have, it is not something that is life altering.

Hi everyone. It's nice to see you participating in the forums.
@WillowJF, thanks for the heads up and I've edited my previous post so it can reflect the correct information.
I'm sorry for the information shared in my post. Let me clarify that Google Assistant will be fully available in Australia in late 2020 and in English only. I understand how much you'd like to use this feature and please know that our team is working on the Sense so you can take full advantage of all its features. At this moment, please make sure to keep the Fitbit app updated so you can be all set to use this or any other feature on your watch correctly.
Look forward to your comments.
