Would you recommend the Sense?

Hey Folks,

My Charge HR 2 is on its last legs, display showing only partially. I tested the Charge HR 4 for almost a month but returned it due too low brightness.

Would you recommend the Sense in its current state? Is it beta?

No I would not.

Yes I would, overall its a great watch. Display is gorgeous, tracking works fine for me. Sleep tracking also seems to be accurate. There are a few features still missing. Alexa integration could be nice but isnt at the moment. SPO2 only works with a certain watch face which is odd. Overall I would give it 8 out of 10 points.

I agree, it is a great watch. Much better than my old Versa 2. Heart rate tracking is spot on. Sleep tracking is top notch. Crafted beautifully!

I had issues with my first Sense, constant rebooting which drove me nuts.  My second unit however is great and is performing as expected.  Comfortable to wear, bright screen and easy to read when running or biking.  In my opinion, a worthy successor to my ageing Ionic.  I'd recommend for sure.

Yes I would. Great watch, only minor issues for me

Yep, works great here. Only point of concern is the button when wearing it on the right arm where you by mistake risc pressing it and causing it to restart if not worn higher up on the writst.

And obviously, the marketed accurate and quick response improved heartrate sensor. This is still only a wrist watch with a sensor measuring the blood flow, cant do miracles compared to a chest strap. However it is improved compared to my previoius InspireHR fitbit and good enough for sports that I have completely retired my old Polar including chest strap, foot pood and bike sensors.

EDIT: Pay attention to the many different clock faces, some will drain the battery relatively quick and some are coded specifically to minimize battery consumption.

Would I recommend the Sense? Yes, I think I would, but not all that sure based on one issue I'm having.

The heart rate monitor does a much better job than my previous Ionic during exercise activities. I mostly cycle for exercise, and I wear a chest strap for monitoring heart rate along with a bike app on my iPhone. Before, when I used the Ionic in conjunction with the strap and app, there was a huge differential between the two methods of measuring heart rate. Now, the sense is much closer to the results from the chest strap.

Sleep tracking I feel is better as well. It appears to be more accurate than the Ionic. Well, let's put it this way, it is much more sensitive to the various sleep stages during the night.

Main issue: This is my second Sense, as the first one I had was plagued with problems. The new one I'm using now since last week seems to operate properly, except for one area, EDA Scan. After setting it up when I received it, the EDA Scan worked right off the bat. It gave me a score that I never got with the first Sense. Great, I thought. But ever since that first day I'm getting no more score indications at all. I called CS and they suggested I reset the watch as new, which did not require waiting for a software download as from the original setup. So, I performed and EDA Scan this morning, and still no score etc.

The questions that arise for me now: Is it the old iPhone (6s+) that I'm using, which, by the way, is updated to the latest iOS software, or is it just simply due to being an iPhone and not an Android device? I'm asking that because Fitbit is now owned by Google, which is Android supportive. I'm certainly not going to jump ship to an Android phone just to use the EDA Scan feature of the Fitbit Sense.

Other than that, I can't say for sure, unless others who perhaps use an Android phone wouldn't mind chiming in.

I ABSOLUTELY would recommend it!

It’s a great watch, and geared to get even better with updates! 😃

ive had mine since launch, and in spite of having to figure a few things out, the Sense is the best FitBit yet!

Do you go to bed before 8 pm? If you go to sleep before 8pm you won’t get a stress management score. The EDA scan doesn’t give a score, it just tells how many stress responses you have during the scan.

the stress management score is a different feature, and to get the score we must do a few things. The watch must be worn at least 14 hours a day, you can’t go to sleep before 8pm, you must take 500+ steps.

My stress score wasn’t showing because my bedtime was 7:00-7:15... I had to change my bedtime to get my scores, and I don’t like staying up ‘til 8 pm. I get up at the but crack of dawn, so wish they’d fix this so any sleep log counts, even if started after 8 pm.

good luck, Fellow FitBitter!

Also, I’m iPhone. Forgot to mention that. ❤️

Hi Beezy. Are we related by any chance? I too go to bed around 7:00pm and up at the butt crack of dawn, or at least before the roosters. I love early morning hours when it's quit and nobody around to bug me. So, the stress management doesn't work unless your bedtime is 8 or after . . . bummer. Well, I'm not changing my routine for this feature. I hope they fix that as well. Other than the issue with stress management, I have to concur, it's an outstanding watch that is feature packed. Hopefully Fitbit will be coming out with firmware updates in the not too distant future, once they have tabulated as many user's complaints/suggestions as warranted. I appreciate you for letting me know that you also use an iPhone. So this is perhaps one area not to be of concern. Much mahalo (thanks)!!

Smart Man! 😆 I went and tried to change my bedtime, but am finding it VERY difficult to stay up til 8:00, then in the morning? My body wants to wake up at 4:30, so the last hour of my “sleep” is suffering, therefore lowering my stress score. 🤪 I’m such a goof, I just want to be able to see how my workouts affect my “exertion balance”, and thought it wouldn’t be too hard to switch my bedtime. Well... I may have to go back to 7:00 bedtime and just chill until FitBit fixes this issue. I’m being ridiculous. 😂🤣😂😅

Hi,

It depends on your use case. As a watch and wellness tracker (sleep, resting heartrate) it is working fine and has some fantastic features. However,  Heartrate tracking during exercise is just not accurate in my and many other cases. Just see the reviews on Youtube by DC rainmaker and The quantified scientist. When I go for walking, outdoor cycling or fitness and wear my OH1 strap as well, the difference is just shocking. I know wrist based hr trackers are not as reliable as chest and arm based trackers but this is a difference I have not seen with previous Fitbit products like the Charge3 and the Ionic. I hope this is an issue with the algorithm that can be solved by Fitbit and not a hardware issue. I already have the sense and can only hope for a solution. In your case, if you want to use it as a sports tracker, I would wait with a purchase until the issue is resolved. I have always been a huge Fitbit fan but this issue might just change that as accurate hr tracking lies at the core of a proper sports tracker. Otherwise, it is a great watch.

Yes, I would recommend the Sense.  I've had it since launch day, and it replaced my Ionic.

I've had no issues with it.  The battery lasts about 5 days with all notifications turned on and the SPO2 watch face running 24/7.  The only thing I have turned off is the lift-to-wake and always-on screen.

The build quality is great and the display is excellent.  All the health monitoring sensors work great, and everything seems to be aligned with data from my Ionic.  Some people have complained the heart rate is off, but I have not experienced this at all.  In fact, the opposite, PurePulse 2.0 seems to provide a smoother heart rate curve.

The only thing that I would take away points for is the UI.  It's a little "choppy" sometimes, but I'm sure this will be improved with OS updates.

A solid recommend!

It's still a Beta very much a work in progress wait a few months or look at watches from other companies.

Well, Beezy, that's the first time anyone has called me smart. Dummkopf maybe, but definitely not smart 😜! If I try to stay up till 8:00, I will end up falling asleep on the couch. I don't think your being ridiculous, you're just being yourself. I'll be d___d if I'm going to change out my routine for a smart-a$$-watch. Shout out to FitBut and voice your concern. I failed to get a stress score this morning. I was up, according to my Sense, at 2:42. I went to bed at just before 7:30, but the watch registered me as 7:44. So all I got was 4 hr 19 min sleep. For whatever reason, it didn't register a proper sleep. 3 times awake, and 14 times restless. Well, that's what I get for devouring a bag of potato chips before going to bed. I normally have good eating habits, but last night I gave into cravings. See, there's that Dummkopf in me. Hopefully it will be better tonight 😴.

Mateos, I have to agree with you regarding the tracking of your heart rate during exercise. When I go out cycling, for example, I wear a chest strap using a bike app on my iPhone. I will say this, the Sense works much better in that category than my previous Ionic. So for exercise, I prefer the use of the chest strap. For day to day use, I find the heart rate on the Sense fairly accurate. I what to see how the heart is doing during normal activity.

I believe they are in the process of working on a firmware update. Perhaps they are taking their time on this making sure they have all the data they need from customer complaints/feedback.
