I've just started monitoring my sleeping heart rate and I'm finding that it is mostly always higher than my resting heart rate. My resting heart rate during the day hovers around 60bpm. I'm sleeping really poorly at the moment and have found that my heart rate seems to increase as I'm falling asleep but then gets lower towards the morning. I can't find anything that says if my sleeping heart rate should be lower than my resting heart rate - I just want to find out if this is unusual. I find that I get really hot in my sleep too when I'm normally always cold while awake.

Just found this thread and relieved to hear others have this issue. My question to you all is if this affects your sleep stats? My sleep animal is consistently Dolphin so I’m not sure if my stats reflect half my brain being awake and causing the high SHR? Although I think I am asleep, my SHR and sleep pattern are indicate I’m not actually registering any sleep(including light sleep) until 3 or 4 am. Without sleeping till 10 or 11 am, I can’t meet my sleep goals at all! I’d appreciate any comments and/or updates you all have regarding this issue. Especially interested in the meditation, yoga nydra followers and/ indica users!

I come out as a parrot - minimal REM apparently. I guess my question would be, do you feel rested and like you’ve slept in the morning and the app says otherwise, or are you also feeling like you’re not sleeping well? (Not sure how far I trust the technology sometimes!)
On another note, 2 things I’ve discovered. I think I was iron deficient, which meant I was experiencing extreme cold especially at night when trying to sleep. I would layer on blankets and hot water bottles etc and I suppose as my basal body temp dropped, my heart rate would increase and increase, until I was boiling and I often woke up and stripped everything off. Since I’ve been on iron supplements, the cold spells have decreased (not gone completely but no longer most nights) and I’ve not noticed the spike in heart rate.
The second is this same sort of heart rate pattern happens when I drink alcohol (even just one glass) - I guess higher HR trying to process the alcohol and then can drop once it’s out of the system? Also often correlates with a spike in temperature.
Interested to know if that resonates with anyone else?

I also noticed the effect of alcohol on sleeping heart rate. But it’s not always so 😀 idk how to explain it

But has anyone had issues with their sleep stats? I think I am asleep but I am not getting the credit for being asleep until 3 or 4 am when I shut down at 11 and feel I am asleep shortly after. I get about 4 or 5 hours of sleep with little REM or Deep then once every couple weeks it says I get 8 or even 10 hours although I don’t feel I did anything different! It’s getting quite frustrating! I think I’m going to have to just ignore sleep stats for myself!

I have tried several different positions including the one suggested - two finger widths from wrist bone.

I was noticing odd variations in my length of sleep. I edited the sleep and found Fitbit had detected gaps in my sleep and I had 2 to 3 sleep periods. Only displaying the last one.. I deleted the odd ones, then edited the one I left behind, saved and re-synced. It happened today. Went from 5hrs 68 to 9hrs 82..

Two nights' records. Sadly, I cannot find the one where I was 90% above my RHR.
I REALLY want a REPORT that I can print and show my Sleep Physician.
She may be able to see the data and correlate the sleep stages to the SHR.

You're like me in that you don't really have a hammock shape curve, and your SHR doesn't drop below RHR until around 4am. I'm thinking it's a reflection of my circadian rhythm. My cortisol doesn't drop until 4am while the majority of people's cortisol continuosly drops in the evening and bottoms out around midn8ght. Yours and my cortisol is low in the morning, I believe. Are you groggy upon rising?
