I've just got an AppleWatch, because of the impossibility of getting my fitbit data exported.
Sleep tracking is starkly different. Last night, FB says 110 mins REM 32 Deep, 53 Awake.
Applewatch for last night: REM 50 mins, Deep 26 mins, Awake 19 mins.
What a mess...anyway, curious what others may have found with their other devices.
Thanks!
Erich

@Erich777 Fitbit and Apple keep much of their data proprietary. Features like the ECG and SpO2 are medically regulated, so data is submitted to the FDA for approval. Sleep analysis isn't medically regulated. So it's hard to find validation. That being said, The Quantified Scientist does independent reviews of all makes and models of wearables. He rates sleep analysis by comparing a wearable to a headband that measures brainwaves. You can search his videos for more information from an independent source.

I’ve also wondered about how Fitbit validates its sleep-tracking technology. From what I’ve read, they use algorithms based on heart rate variability and motion detection, but I’d love to know more about the actual testing process. If you’re into tracking health metrics like this, you might find it interesting how some developers approach building similar fitness apps. For example, I came across this case study showing how a fitness app was created with features like sleep tracking https://ddi-dev.com/blog/case/how-weve-created-a-fitness-app/ It’s a good look at the tech that powers these kinds of apps!
