I got my Surge as a Xmas present imported from the US in December 2014 and have worn it almost continuously.. It has suffered from the cracking on the back around the screw holes but hasn't failed at that point. Yesterday the buckle pulled through the wrist band- I've now carried out a rapid work around with duck tape but I'm looking for recomendations for a replacement. My principal activities are spinning and hiking and I find the existing facilities in the Surge very useful however I don't use the GPS function as I have full size units which I use when walking. I'm open to suggestions from across the range of manufacturers - the Garmin Vivoactive seems just too clunky and too expensive - is the Blaze a suitable replacement as I don't want to pay for another expensive Surge with this type of design fault? Any ideas are most welcome 🙂

Looks like the Blaze does everything the Surge does, just without the GPS tracking.
I've had one since they came out and love it. It's a tad bigger than the Charge HR, but it's still sleek looking with a great feel.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm UK based and the Surge is well out of warranty - whilst the failure is disappointing I'm marking it down to experience. I'm surprised that fitbit don't do a repair service or at least supply a new band as replacing it (inc any bonding required) isn't beyond the capabilities of many people.

I'll take another look as many seem to be giving it the thumbs up - my comments on the pricing were incorrect as I seem to have book marked the wrong model - doh!

@rossorichie It's great to see you in the Community! So sorry to hear about the issue you experienced with your Surge. However, my friends @WendyB and @Odyssey13 advised great in regards the Fitbit Blaze as an option. My best advice is to contact our Customer Support team so they can take a look at your case and review your warranty and options.
@ajakubisin @SunsetRunner I really appreciate your feedback my friends since it helps us to keep improving and provide a better service since it's our main goal.
I'll be around if more questions arise!

I am also looking for another alternative to my Surge. Since I got my first Surge in 2015, it began falling apart at the screws, as you observed, but I called them, and they sent me a replacement as it was still under warranty of 1 year. The replacement had the exact same thing happen to it, in less that one year, they finally sent me another replacement for that one, and now I've barely had it since November and the screen just went dead. The screw holes haven't ripped just yet though ....
Obviously the quality control for the Surge does not correlate with it's price point. I'm looking into the Garmin.

@teeroks Thanks for joining us in this thread and our Fitbit Community! Seems odd that your Surge's display is not turning on. I would like you to try restarting it as advised in Meylin's post. This will refresh your tracker internally and check out if your Surge's display gets back to life.
Looking forward to your response my friend!

I already did a reset on the device and had the same issue. I am not new to fitbit, have had this device for nearly a year and half, and this is my third replacement device. If they werent tearing by the screws, or water getting into the screen (mind you, I have never showered once with the device and always keep it clean) then now it's the screen going blank. There is a quality control issue with this device, hands down. It costs 250 bucks and doesn't even last a year? That's just not cool, and I felt it important to share that. Don't get me wrong, the intentions are great. I love what the device can do......when it actually works and isn't falling apart.

Yeah you got the generic cheerfull standard crappy advise from fitbit. Starts to get annoying after a while. Garmin have a far superior range of long lasting products

I managed to extend the life of mine by using a thin strip of rubber taken from a old bicycle inner tube bonded with some rubber adhesive in order to fix a broken buckle strap - not pretty but it works.

Yeah I am going to look into switching. I love the integration of fitbit with the other apps, but when it comes down to it, i guess it doesnt really matter. I just get pissed when company's dont care they sell crappy products.....like, do better.

@Irving Amazon and E-bay sell aftermarket bands for the Surge. YouTube has "How to" videos to help if you're interested. Good luck.
