Hi all,
I've just got my new Surge and need some help.
The auto bicycle tracking is counting steps as well. On the dashboard / app, the auto tracking gives the breakdown of the bicycling ride and states that non of this counts towards my daily step count. However, when I go to the step count, the breakdown shows the same time period for the step count as the auto bicycle tracking. These are also not accurate. As the distance is 15.35km and they are recorded as 4,000 steps.

Hello @Cathal, welcome aboard to our community. Indeed, note that when you are biking the activity itself wont grab any steps, but in general it will count steps due to the jolts you get on your ride. Note that your tracker in the most basic form is a movement sensor and it will read all your movement in relation to your walk motion pattern or any other action similar to this. The activity itself will only change the intensity of your steps to a higher pace depending on the distance you made.
I have investigate this by myself to have more facts about it and note that even with GPS the steps will remain, or manually logging this activity wont remove the steps. However by reading comments, seems some user also like to have steps too and this relay on each user preference.
Despite this is not a immediate solution, there is a suggestion in our Feature request board with this feedback and is quite popular. Perhaps you are interest in giving your vote and add your comments, if you do please take a moment to review this idea: Eliminate step count when Surge is in bike mode. The product team looks forward to reading and incorporating your suggestions into future versions of Fitbit trackers and apps.
Hope this information helps and see you around.

I don't understand why this is the case. If the fitbit understands that it is on bike mode why would it still count steps on the dash board? Secondly, why is the step count inaccurate?

Great to see you around @Cathal. Have you tried using SmartTrack? If you haven't, I recommend using this new feature to track all type of exercises. It automatically recognizes and records select exercises to ensure you get credit for your most active moments of the day.
Please check the article and if you need anything else, let me know.
