Bad connection with charging cable

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

The last couple of weeks I notice the charging cable seems not to connect well. From time to time my Surge vibrates while charging (sometimes several times a minute), indicating charging has 'started'.

I've tried using the adapter from my Samsung S6, my Asus tablet, and USB ports on my desktop & laptop. I have it with all of them. So I think it's just a bad connection at the end of the Surge.

I don't see any signs of abuse/damage on either side btw. Maybe the only thing is that the 4 copper dots on the Surge seem to be dented at the center. Can't make it out very well. Maybe that's why the connection is poor?

After every excercise I wipe off my Surge with a damp towel. There's no lint or whatever inside the charging part.

I fear for the battery life if this goes on any longer. And as it's not changeable...

Anyone else having this culprit?

My wife is having a similar issue.  At this point, her Surge is 3 months old.  This morning She was unable to initiate a charge with her cable.  I used my cable on her Surge (purchased my Surge yesterday) and had no problems getting it to charge.  Seems like it was a bad connection on the cable's part, not the Surge unit.

I know this doesn't really solve the issue, but thought I'd let you know, you're not alone....

I am having trouble charging my Surge.  It was a gift for Christmas 2015 and I am having mixed feelings about it.  It is not wowing me, the battery life is not good, I am lucky if I get two days.   I charged it last night and it was working this morning, now it has stopped working all together.  I had better luck with my Fitbit II.  This is disheartening because this was an expensive gift.  Will try charging it again tonight, the cord must have a short in it because I can not get it to be recognized while charging using the usb cord.Woman Frustrated

I have the same issue, I have to be very careful to ensure the lights on the watch go out when I insert the cable and also that they remain out when I put my Surge down. Iights often come on again which occurs when the surge is 'not' charging due to the poor cable connection.

Being aware of this helpes me at least fully charge my Surge. The Battry life is just enough to last a Marathon in running mode with almost no battery left post race for me- perhaps it wants me to run faster? I am getting about two days battery life if I do not use the running GPS tracking mode.

I just sent support and email on both topics. The device is great for running and walking, heart rate, steps and sleep all are of interest ( at times) The Steps/distance is off a lot if I run with out turning on the tracker. Counts the steps but assumes a distance based on walking stride lenagth not my running stide leanght. Not worried about this minor and understandable variance, Mine is about 12 months old now. I would not like to need to replace in such a short time.

Hello there guys! I'm sorry to know about these inconveniences with your charging cable. I'd like to recommend that you clean the contacts on the back of your tracker. This will help to remove any dirty or dust accumulated on your tracker. You only need a toothbrush or a toothpick.  You can also try to leave your tracker on an even surface.

Hope this helps.

I got my FitBit for fathers day last month, but the charging cable is defective. I have to twist and orient cable just right at the sleeve to get the lights to come on indicating it is charging, if I disturb it at all then it fails.

None of those has made a lick-of-difference.  This is clearly a problem with your hardware.  Is it possible to exchange or replace my charge cable altogether?  The charge issue and other issues I'm having with this thing is costing Fitbit a customer/user.

If you do every single thing you have suggested and the cable still becomes dislodged or loses connection sometime during charging, what do you do next?  It is too loose.  It becomes disconnected too easily.

The cable port on the back of the Fitbit Charge needs to be re designed.
