I emailed Fitbit and asked exactly the same question. That was before I came on the forum and saw how common the problem was. They're sending me a new one which I didn't expect. I thought they may have had the technology to fit a new strap but alas no.

As dear @Tony-B suggested it's possible to contact the support team from the official contact page*. When the tracker is under warranty, they can send a replacement when decided. Depending on how it's broken it may or may not fall under warranty (it's up to them to decide). Also depends if the tracker has been purchased new (if purchased second hand.. unlikely there be warranty).

When desired, if a replacement is given, it's possible to for example sell on a second hand website and use the money partially getting a tracker which have replaceable bands (Fitbit Alta, Flex 2*, Charge 2, Blaze).

* Flex 2 is swim proof.

** The Charge 2 and Blaze are able to monitor heart rate.

Fitbit should be contacted if your Surge is within the warrany period.  Upon their review you may qualify for a replacement Surge.

Having said that - officially Fitbit maintains that the band cannot be replaced.  There is no swappable band available, from Fitbit, for the Surge.  Many here and in other posts have complained exhaustively regarding this practice.  My only comment is this - Fitbit is out to make money and they will steer you to purchase a new device from them, of course, and may give you a discount of 10% since you are a loyal customer.

As for me - I believe that a $270 watch (that's what they were going for when I got mine) should have some mechanism to allow for replacing a broken wrist band.  Enter the internet!  I purchased a replacement band on Amazon from the retailer Etoper.  With my Prime membership I got free 2-day shipping, it arrived today and my wife happily replaced the band.

That's right - the band has been replaced.  Your mileage may vary depending on your ability/skills/willingness to try.  There are various sources on YouTube which offer a how-to on replacing the band.  It's a little tricky with the GPS antenna embedded in the strap with the clasp.  Also the clasp is spring loaded and can be removed/transferred.  Just one thing - the band is a little thicker than the clasp but it's not a deal breaker.

So take that, Fitbit!  For less than $30 I was able to replace the band (yes, my wife did it).  I like the Surge so much I'll purchase additional bands just in case.  The original lasted me 19 months - if I glued it together I may have gotten a little more mileage on it.  But it feels good to have a non-cracked band on it.
