My fitbit surge is only one day old and its battery seems to drain extraordinarily fast, I charged it for 2 hours and five minutes later the battery level has already gone down one 1/8 even though I did not even use it much.

Hi, @Carlin, for the Surge it is important to make sure that GPS is only turned on when you are using it. Also if you are not wearing it as a watch and it is not in use you may want to shut it down.
It may be that the Surge wasn't charging the whole time it was plugged in, as the connection can sometimes be a bit loose.
I would suggest plugging it in again and charging it until you get a notice from your Fitbit app that it is fully charged. After that keep an eye on how long it takes for the app to send you the notification that the battery is low. (That is usually the best indication of the exact state of your charge, although you will, of course need to sync regularly -- at least once or twice a day -- in order for the app to determine the up to date state of charge.)
Here are also some general tips about maximising battery life

Hey @Carlin, thank you for joining us! Thanks for the help @Julia_G.
Thanks for the details about your Surge, I'd recommendation perform a restart on your Surge too, in case that it is having some hardware issue after the setup. If that doesn't help, it's best to contact our Support Team, they can check your information; they have special tools to check this type of issues. You can reach them via email, or if you prefer you can chat or calling them at:
Keep me posted with the outcome!

@Carlin, I would definitely recommend trying it for a few days after the restart and seeing how long the battery lasts before calling support.
As I said, make sure it is fully charged until you get the battery full notice and then see how long it will go before you get the notice that your battery is low. That way you will have a clearer idea of how long it is lasting.
