Calories Burned When Not Wearing Surge?

I woke up this morning and saw that I'd burned over 4,000 calories overnight.  The problem is that I wasn't wearing my Fitbit!!  What's going on?

The calories burned are BMR calories. Your fitbit also calculates calories burned for your BMR. You burn calories just by being alive! Even Sleeping. Fitbit includes these burned calories in it's calorie calculations, so even if you did not wear the fitbit, you'll still burn these calories.

Sorry Wendy but burning 4,000 calories while sleeping as your BMR sounds like something is wrong!

Sounds very wrong, I have a devil of a time burning 4K calories on my most active days. If it was off your arm and not charging it "should" register you as being asleep. If charging it should not do anything at all. Try a restart and see if it happens again? Sometimes my HR monitor gets a bit erratic for no real reason and a reset sorts it out.
