Is the challange in the same time Zone? If it's in a different time zone your steps will not be the same as your dashboard.

Welcome to the Community @Ollie1507! This is interesting, if you're still having issues with updating your steps to your challenge, I recommend that you force quit your Fitbit app. Sometimes the tracker syncs but the information needs to be refreshed.
