Nice to see that you're digging into the Forums @Bill_1821, let me give you a warm welcome to our Community.
Thanks for sharing you feedback. We really appreciate this information since other users have reported having issues connecting the Fitbit Surge with the charger too, since some times the little metal pieces that are located on each side of the charger are bent; this due to the usage. So, you can check if your charger is having similar issues and try move them back to the correct position.
How old is your Surge? Clean the charging contacts on the back of your Surge. These contacts can become obstructed by microscopic dirt or debris that prevents them from making a good connection to the charger. Use a toothpick or toothbrush to clean the charging contacts; do not scrape them with anything metal because this may damage the plating and result in corrosion.
You can give it a try and confirm if this is helpful for you. In the worst case scenario you might have to get another charger. But let's check this first.
Keep me posted.
