Correctly tracking heart rate

I recently noticed I am getting out of breath much quicker lately. I bought the Fitbit surge to track sleep heart rate etc. I went to the doctor and was told my lung capacity is 50 percent of what it should be. The only thing the doctor can find is a paralyzed phrenic nerve on my right side. In saying this is there anything I can adjust on the surge as there are times my heart rate shows in the fat burn zone when simply walking to my vehicle?

Sorry to hear about your breathing troubles. I don't think you can do anything to adjust your heart rate data on the Surge as things like your fat burning zone will be extrapolated from your other data (height, weight, age, gender etc.) You could try adjusting some of these to raise the baseline for your fat burning and cardiac zones, but this would have a knock-on effect on other readings.

But if your diminished lung capacity is making your heart work harder to meet your oxygen requirements, it may well be that even a few steps will put you in the fat-burning zone.
