Real puzzler...
So, I got my surge as agift from my kids last chrismas.. Worked fine, but around may or so, I managed to break the buckle on the wristband. Called fitbit, they don't carry spares, but since it was less than 12 months old, replaced the whole thing free of charge. I start using the replacement unit, at first business as usual, no priblems, but then it started to record crazy floor counts, on one instance, I supposedly climbed 78 floors during 1 hour of exercising...
Completely shutting it down and resarting did not fix the problem..
I still had the old surge witht the broken buckle lying around, so I transplanted the buckle from the replacement unit to the old one, and started using it again.
Problem solved, floor counts are accurate now.
Go figure...

@MTT3107 That sounds pretty odd and the oddest part is that the restart didn't do the trick in this case! However, I'm glad you were able to find a solution for it.
Now, please take into account that your Surge detects floors using an altimeter, which is a sensor that calculates altitude based on atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure decreases with increasing elevation, so the Surge calculates elevation gain based on the reduction in atmospheric pressure. Your tracker registers a floor when it detects continuous motion combined with an elevation gain of 7 to 10 feet.
Now, your Surge may give you credit for extra floors for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, your tracker may detect pressure changes unrelated to elevation gains, such as a gust of wind, weather change, or opening a door. Also, exposure to excess moisture can also result in extra floors being counted. This happens if the pathway to the altimeter on the back of your tracker becomes temporarily blocked with sweat or water. I recommend drying your tracker thoroughly after every workout session.
Catch you later!

I'm confused. Isn't Fitbit recommending to wear the Surge tighter and slightly higher up wrist during exercise to get more accurate HR. However, we should wear it loosely as well during exercise for more accurate Floor count?

@VolinGA welcome to the forums! Great question and sorry for the confusion there; I've edited accordingly. Do not wear your tracker too tight; as a tight band restricts blood flow, potentially affecting the heart rate signal. That being said, the tracker should also be slightly tighter (snug but not constricting) during exercise than during all-day wear.
