Does the surge automatically track activity

I have had my tracker for almost a week and it does not track any activities but steps unless I go into exercise and set it. Is this correct or is it supposed to pickup and activity after 15minutes on its on?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Vickilee. It's great to have you here. Your Fitbit Surge uses a feature called SmartTrack to recognize some of your continuous and high-movement activities. To see a list of the activities your Surge will track please visit this post. You can set how long it will start tracking your activities.
 
If your Surge is not recording your activities automatically, I would recommend performing a restart. Hope this helps.
