Hi all! I'm looking at buying a fitbit surge but I do a lot of hiking and want something that is going to track my elevation gain as well as distance hiked - I know the Surge tracks "floors" climbed, but is there a way to get the stats (on the surge screen or on the app) in terms of metres elevation gain, as well as max elevation reached??

Hi @thathikergirl! Thanks for joining us to this family, hope you like what find here!
Good to know that you're doing your research! Fitbit Surge has GPS sensors, so using Multi-sport to track your Hikes, Runs and Walks calculates distance, elevation, and pace. When the activity is done and you sync your tracker, you'll find all the data and a GPS map of your route in your exercise history on the online Fitbit Dashboard. This map will show the summary of the workout showing elevation gain (ft./m). There is no option to see it on real time.
It will look like this:
Hope this helps!

You can pair the Fitbit with Strava which is a far better tracking app.
I'm hoping at some point that Fitbit will look at Strava, Endomondo et al and improve their app.
If hiking is your thing then the main consideration should be battery life; if you're in the hills for several hours tracking on GPS I'm not sure the Surge battery will last that long.
Will.

Thanks for the suggestions @WillBiltcliffe! Thanks for joining this family BTW!
About the Surge battery, if you aren’t tracking runs or exercises that use GPS, your fully charged Fitbit Surge should last up to 7 days. A fully charged Surge can track up to 10 hours of activities that use GPS, so it will depend on long are your Hike activities. For more information on how to use a third party App with Fitbit take a look of this information.
See you around!
