Seems like a while since there was a firmware update for the Surge...anyone got any idea about when one should be expected?
Thanks,
Ryan

I have the surge and I'm beginning to think it was a bad choice. It has the elliptical option on the band itself but yet when u choose that option and workout on the elliptical it doesn't track anything. 😩

Thanks for starting this! I too have been wondering about a Surge firmware update. At this point I think it's time for Fitbit to either end-of-life the product and put us out of our misery or announce some timeframe for an update. Personally I feel like we have been had - we get their top of the line fitness tracker and in return get poorly designed bands that fail regularly, infrequent and minor updates, passed over on other common features (advanced notifications, movement reminders, etc), and we aren't even given the option to downgrade when we are on our fourth surge from warranty issues.
Finally - if a moderator weighs in - please don't tell us to make a suggestion in the Feature Suggestions area. That only works if Fitbit actually updates the firmware with new features on a timely basis. We have all gone there, made suggestions, voted on others...to no avail.
Apple watch, Garmin, and even that new ring sized tracker are all looking better right now than our two-year old dinosaur of a Surge tracker. Maybe the recent Pebble acquisition will help, however I still figure it will take them 6-12 months to capitalize off of that.
Fitbit - any comments (besides making a feature suggestion)?

Ryanmarie - This link here states the latest firmware:https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1372
Version 16.34.5.14 (is the latest at time of writing this - hasn't been updated in over a year) - if you check on the app or in settings on the surge it will tell you what version...

Hi DaveMcC - hearing you completely. Thankfully I haven't had the band issues but I know of others that have. At any rate its been over a year and there's been nothing. My preference would be for an update but alternatively they could put us out of our misery and say there's nothing coming. I too have been on the feature request page and voted etc...doesn't seem like much point doing so if nothing happens...I've contacted support to asked about new firmware and pretty much got the response that Wendy suggested which was you will know when we tell you...bit more useful communication would be great...

The only reason I am still here is that my Surge is holding together with superglue and I quite like the app, well I'm used to it I guess.
No good saying go to Blaze as the moderators try to, its not an always on screen and only has connected GPS, both red lines for me.
It seems although Fitbit are still actively selling this device, it's being quielty pushed to the back, if you look at marketing pictures it's not at the front as a flagship product would be. Lack of support and not addressing the band issue pretty well confirm this for me.

Perhaps with the all the band issues they are having theres little point developing the firmware anymore...:(

Agree totally with Dave. No firmware updates or new functionality that the competitors have. Simple things link personal best tracking, back to start (gps) etc will make a difference.
When I bought the watch I accepted the poorer features hoping that the firmware and app updates will evolve over time. Sadly this has not happened in 2 years.
I am unfortunately recommending that friends stay away from Fitbit and will soon move to the competition.

When the Surge didn't receive any update love after the last product rollout, I assumed it was being quietly deep-sixed. With all of the product problems (I'm on my third, getting hit with both the condensation and broken band defects) and long period of time since the last update, I think they pulled the plug and are waiting to deplete inventory before making it official.
I'll wait until my superglue fails or I just can't take the increasing number of glitches anymore and switch to a competitor product since I'm no longer covered by the warranty.

Ryannmarie2005 I totally noticed the Elillptical issue too. What a piece of junk this tracker is, 1 1/2 hours on the machine with it in that mode. Counted about 67 steps when I was done.
Wow, that's really helpful.

Nice to see you here guys! Thank you very much for the feedback and comments about Fitbit Surge!
It seems to be a fairly common question, so I wanted to clarify the information in regards to updates for Fitbit surge, it's right we haven't receive any information about the next update and it's being a while since the last one, but as I said before this not necessarily means that Fitbit doesn't take care of this model. We advise you to stay tuned, when Fitbit sends updates the information is usually post in the official page Fitbit.com or is posted here in Forums.
In case that you're having specific issues with your Fitbit Surge as @chrisfromwa mentioned. Please post back as many details as you can in regards of the issue and what you have tried until now. I'll be more than glad to help you with that! If you prefer to contact Customer Support directly, you can do so too.
I'd advise to stay tuned, until we receive more information from our team, to see what is next.
Have a good!

I'm throwing in the towel on the Surge. After 17 months and three devices (the newest replacement arrived with a peeling band that I thought couldn't get worse - it did), plus no firmware updates in a year, it has all the markings of an orphan product.
They're spending their resources on acquiring Pebble and Vector (reducing the competition???), ignoring and not on supporting those who bought their devices. For years, they have been requests for more activities like skiing, yet no progress.
Rather than drop $200 on a discounted Surge, I'd rather buy a Garmin for $250 and know that when the band breaks, I can pick up a replacement for $15 (a $185 savings over a fifth Surge!).
