Hmmm, not so sure about that. My 2009 vintage Garmin Forerunner can show a track on the face of the device, and I know the Fitbit is far more powerful than the Garmin.

was not the same price.
display technology is different, display size is different.
autonomy, 20 hours, at the most.

However, as my friends @SunsetRunner and @shipo mentioned, the Surge doesn't have the ability to show the map but you can submit your suggestion in our Feature Request board where people can vote for your idea and the more votes it gets, the more chances it will have to be reviewed by our engineering team.
