Fitbit won't work off the charger

My husband bought me my Fitbit surge recently and I can't seem to get it to work off the charger it either freezes or it goes to a blank screen and I can't do anything with it.. I've tried to reset it and it doesn't change anything.

Since the tracker still freezing after restarting.. fastest to exchange at the store of purchase (with receipt)..
