GPS won't connect

Hi folks, brand new Fitbit user as of last night when I bought a Surge.

Went to the gym this morning and clicked Exercise, then Bike, then clicked it to start and all I got was "Searching" and the satellite icon in the middle of the screen. It never changed from this the whole time I was on the bike (1 hour), and I can only assume from that it never picked up the exercise. Am I doing  something wrong here or is this a fault with the product?

Running Firmware 16.34.5.14 and no pink arrows so I assume this is the latest firmware?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Hi, @Stookiebhoy! I'm assuming you used a stationary bike indoors in the gym? Please note that like any GPS device, the Surge will most likely not pick up GPS inside the building, nor will it be of much use on a stationary bicycle. If this is in fact what you are doing, you'd be better off tracking your ride using "spinning" rather than biking.

However, even without the GPS, the tracker does indeed pick up your exercise, so no worries there.

Welcome to the forums @Stookiebhoy, it's great to see you around, and thanks for that clear explanation about the GPS  @MakMak, this pretty much sums it up.

@Stookiebhoy, do keep us posted if you're able to tracker you exercise using the spinning option.

Hi Dave, yes it seems to track the exercise on spinning without any problems, however, the pulse rate seems to be miles off when compared to the bike's pulsometer. I don't mean just a couple of digits I mean by up to 60bpm. I was hammering some sprints today and my pulse on the bike was at 163, while on the watch it was 101, so something isn't right. Not too sure if this is a faulty watch I have, or if this is an inherent fault with Fitbit in general. I hope it's the former

@Stookiebhoy I see. Hey just out of curiosity have you tried restarting your tracker by doing the following:

  1. Press and hold the Home and Select buttons (left and bottom right) on your Fitbit Surge for 10 to 15 seconds, until you see the screen flash or start to dim.
  2. Let go of the buttons.
  3. After your screen turns completely off, wait 10 seconds and press the Home button to turn your Surge back on.

However, I'd like to highlight what @MakMak already said: "Please note that like any GPS device, the Surge will most likely not pick up GPS inside the building, nor will it be of much use on a stationary bicycle."
