Info on Surge wanted

am currently using two exercise trackers. My main one is the fitbit charge HR but I also use the Basis Peak. Unfortunately the basis peak is being recalled and will no longer function as of Dec 31 so I need to replace it. Here is my problem. I use the Basis peak because it provides information about when I bicycle automatically and sends it to Myfitness pal recording the length of time I actually cycled. My charge HR is not doing that accurately. Also when I roller blade the Basis Peak sends info to MyFitness Pal and while it gets the exercise incorrect as walking I can easily change it to roller blading once it is in MyFitness Pal. I am thinking of upgrading to one of the newer fitbits with GPS and using only one tracker but if it cannot provide the information I need and send it to MyFitness Pal then I would probably be better off investing in a Garmin or other tracker and using it in conjunction with my Charge HR the way I do today with the Basis Peak. I have been told that SmartTrack should do what I need it to on my charge HR but it is not reporting the information accurately the way the basis peak does. I have been told I should try to use exercise mode but I don't want to have to do this additional step, I want it to be completely automatic. What I am asking is if people who use one of the newer models would let me know if it is able to track exercise automatically. On the Basis Peak I do not have to push any buttons or let it know I am starting to exercise and I want whatever I get to work the same way. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Thanks for being part of our Community @aliendancer! At the moment SmartTrack, that is the automatic method to recognize activities using your Fitbit, doesn't count with GPS tracking. Currently only by placing the Surge tracker in to bike mode or setting your Charge HR in to activity mode (like you mentioned) would be the only method available.

However, I think that adding GPS tracking to SmartTrack is a very nice addition. You can suggest our developers for this to be added. To do so, you can vote on this request or create your own request in our Feature Request board

I hope this helps, keep me posted! 😉

Yeah I was kind of thinking that. It is a shame really because the fitbit has some nice features. Guess i will continue to use two as I am now and I am leaning towards the Garmin but will research a few before I buy.
