Riding my Air Dyne Life Cycle

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Whenever I ride my Air Dyne I always start the tracking even though it shows up as if If walking (almost in one place as the ditance for an hour ride shows like .6 miles or so but I digress..) and after my ride I then manually impute my ride log which then calculates calories burned after I submit my time and "distance" on the odometer.

Here's my question; when I then look at my exercise for the day it shows double, one log for the "walk" and another for the "ride" that I manually imput. I have been told in the past that it recalculates only the ride if I do that imput right after I finish my ride, which I do, but it always shows as double?

I've been going back in and deleting the "walk" totals which leave only the true "ride" ones but the daily calories burned never changes? Why don't those additional calories for the "walk" subtract out of my totals? Or am I missing something here? Is there a better way to do this? Perhaps I should not be wearing the Surge when I ride and just manually imput the ride when done?

Confused...

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @RFIP! I think that you have a couple of alternatives here. You can correct the activity, since it is being automatically recognized by the tracker with SmartTrack you can keep that activity and re-naming it. To edit and activity, please do the following:

1. Go to http://www.fitbit.com/activities
2. Click the activity you want to edit or delete. A yellow box should pop up.
3. If you want to edit the activity, click the note pad icon and proceed to edit the duration, distance and/or start time, then hit the "Update" button. If you want to delete the activity, click the X icon.

Also, you can start the activity from your tracker starting the activity from the device itself. To use your Surge during a run or other exercise like Bike or Spinning:

  1. Press the Home button and then swipe to the Run or Exercise screens. To change your Exercise menu to see only the exercises you use, see  this post by my dear friend @MariamV on How do I customize the Exercise menu on my tracker?
  2. Press the Select button (lower right) or tap the screen, then swipe to find the type of run or exercise you want to track. You'll know whether the activity uses GPS if you see a GPS icon next to the heart rate icon.

  3. When you find what you're looking for, press the Select button (lower right) or tap the screen to start your activity.

I hope this helps, keep me posted! 😉

Thanks for your reply @RFIP! 😉 Sorry for the confusion! Smiley Embarassed In my previous post I was describing the troubleshoot for activity record. To edit an exercise, you need to go to your Online Dashboard to Log > Activities. Then, on your Activity History please click on the little pencil next to the current name of your activity.

Then, a pop up will appear where you need to type in the name of your activity (like bike or spinning).

In my activities log it shows my last 10 activities however there is only ONE that has the edit pencil next to it and that is from Oct 20th.

I honestly do not understand why this is such a difficult thing? I mean there are millions of people who ride stationary bikes and currently there seems to be no easy why to track it on a fitbit.

Again today I used the tracker then entered a manual log under "bike" like I had been told a few months ago on this forum saying "not to worry, the fitbit will re-calculate and just give the ride calories burned.." which of course it does not. My logs all have double excerices, one for a walk and another for the (higher burn) stationary ride...

Frustrated.

Hi there @RFIP, thank you for your feedback about editing activities.

The way to edit exercise change depending on how it was recorded. If your activity is a manual entry, then the option to edit wont be available. It will be require to delete the activity and enter a new one.

Now if the activity was recorded using the exercise mode (Pressing and holding down the side button of the tracker or was used the GPS feature) Is require to be extra careful. Despite you have the option to edit the category of the exercise, once it is updated, the option to edit the exercise will disappeared and wont be possible to edit again. The only workaround would be to enter a manual Activity now but some details will be missed.

If the activity comes from SmartTrack, then you can edit the exercise as many times you want, since the option will be available to made more modifications in the future if is require.

About your calories I would like to clarify that indeed it will improve the accuracy of your activity's contribution to your caloric burn, however for your calories to be more accurate it requires the backup from the steps and the intensity of your exercise. So with manual activities you improve the average of the calories, but it wont be the same as an activity specifically based on steps.

Is possible that your activities are being duplicate, due to your tracker is automatically tracking your exercise, plus the manual log you are adding.

This is something that I do when I am at the gym and I need to do my 15 minutes of spinning. I do my exercise not worrying about the tracker is recording my exercise and at the end of the day, I reviewed on my activity history if all the exercise is correct. Most of the times since is an stationary bike, does not recognized the exercise, but is reading my heart rate, so I manually enter the exercise and the heart rate data helps to get an accurate stimation of my calories burned. The bright side of a manual exercise is that you can manually enter your calories burned or the intensity of your exercise. If you need more help with manual activities please take a look at this post.

Hope this helps and let me know if you need more help.
