Sleep tracking inaccuracy

I noticed tonight when I woke up (I'm an aide in a hospital and work overnights. Shoutout to the people requesting a second hand for the Surge display for counting pulse and respirations!) that my sleep log showed I was awake from 1130-1300. This was just about the middle of my normal sleep cycle, so I knew I was not in fact awake, plus I couldn't recall waking up even once after I fell asleep and before my alarm went off. I altered my sleep log to show that I was sleeping for that entire time, and I wound up losing around 100 steps from my count. I have never had any issues with sleep tracking on my Surge, so I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this happen, if I should just consider it a random fluke incident (we'll see if it does this again after I get off work and wake up tomorrow evening), or if I need to consider the possibility that I've become a sleepwalker. I toyed with the idea of alien abduction, but seeing as it was the middle of the day, I figured they wouldn't want to be caught out in the daylight.

Welcome to the forums @Racheltherant! I'd like to provide some information about this. Cat Happy

Whenever your tracker reports an awake period (even if you weren't) it means that you were moving around in bed such that the tracker has determined you weren't alseep. There is further info about this including changing the sleep tracking sensitivity setting in the sleep tracking FAQ help article. It's a good idea to also restart your tracker in case there is a temporary glitch.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions Cat Happy

Alrighty, I restarted it, which I haven't done in quite some time anyway, so hopefully that will fix it. It didn't really cross my mind that I was moving that much as I'm normally a very heavy sleeper, but it would make sense, because I noticed my heart rate had a couple odd fluctuations during that same time period. Maybe I was dreaming and tossing around? It had been a pretty hectic night at work that night, so it wouldn't surprise me if it threw my sleep schedule out of whack. Although between you, me, and the rest of this forum, I was kind of excited by the very slim to impossible prospect of alien abduction. 😉

Let's not discard the thought of alien abduction @Racheltherant! Maybe you had the party of a lifetime and your Surge tracked it but you don't remember it. Smiley LOL

On a similar (not alien related) note, there are some cases where your sleep may not be accurately logged with an HR based tracker, this can be for different reasons, one of them a high resting heart rate or trying to rest after an intense workout or a stressful situation, since it will take longer for your body to 'wind down' and recognize a sleeping pattern.

Let me know if you have any questions, sleep well! Smiley Very Happy
