Steps whilst in bike mode

One of the main reasons I purchased the Surge was to diferentiate cycling from walking/other activities. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed that when in 'bike' mode, the Surge still logs steps. On average, for a 30-50 minute ride, my Surge will record ~2000 steps. I have asked Fitbit why this is - it's because their algorithms aren't sensitive enough to prevent this. Surely they can develop an algorithm to switch off input from the accelerometer during cycling. This isnt good enough for a product that, on their website, advertises the ability for 'multisport'. At this point, Im considering getting the Garmin Vivosmart HR/GPS and selling my Surge on ebay.

Fitbit, will this be addressed in new firmware updates? If yes, when will this be?

Hi there @ebol, welcome aboard to our Community. Thank you for sharing your feedback about the step count while cycling. This feedback is a bit divided since there are users that like to have steps while cycling like you can see here, and others who prefer the steps were not counted during this exercise as you mentioned on your post, however both feedbacks are always welcome.

At the moment we haven't received any news about an update related to this, nonetheless there are a suggestion that might be of your interest: Option to remove steps earned when cycling. I know is not a short term solution, although you can share your vote and leave your comments to make more popular this idea. Our product team looks forward to reading and incorporating your suggestions into future versions of Fitbit trackers and apps to make sure we are delivering what our users want.

Hope this information helps. See you around!
